View Full Version : Can a 10 bolt rear handle headers?
goatjj Nov 7th, 00, 10:17 AM I have a 67RS 327 with a 10bolt rear end. I want to get rid of my exaust manifolds and get a set of headers. My tranny is the stock powerglide, its in good shape and I like the feel of it.I have a new edlbrock 4bbl 650 carb. I'm not sure how much hoarses I'm putting out and I'm afraid headers will blow my rearend. What do you think.

mbrekke Nov 7th, 00, 10:28 AM I wouldn't worry about it. Headers only add a few extra horses.

DOUG G Nov 7th, 00, 10:53 AM the headers won't be what takes the rear out, it will be the right foot and the grin from the sound http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif

pdq67 Nov 7th, 00, 03:17 PM If you are a stock two barrel, you are 210hp. If you are a stock four barrel, then you are probably a 250/275hp engine. pdq67

sr71bb Nov 7th, 00, 05:51 PM I have seen 400-450 horse cars get by with STOCK 10 bolts. GO FOR IT!!!!
Steve R Nov 7th, 00, 09:57 PM If your rear end is in good shape it should be fine. However, it might not be a bad time to change the gear lube if you haven't done it in a while and check the gears at the same time. If you take into consideration that all the new Camaro's use a 7 1/2" rear you will be fine.

Mark W. Winning Nov 8th, 00, 03:43 AM We two have a high 10 second and a low 11 second 3rd gen cars with 7.5" rears. Both cars leave with front wheels up and they live. The trick is not to beat the rear. I launch is one thing, but "lashing" the gears is another.

How about some good ideas on the headers of choice!

I've had a set of Hedman on mine for over 20 years. The're inexpensive and are decent quality for the money spent.
