hi guys. this is my first post in this forum. i registered in another camaro forum first, but im not quite sure if thats the right place.

first of all, sorry for my english - its not my first language. i moved from europe to san juan in puerto rico and
even if i have experience in rebuilding engines and the entire car, a v8 is still new to me. its my first v8 and the car is nothing but original under the hood.

i bought a camaro and what i know are the folloing details:

its a 350, trnsmission turbo 350, tapas 370, headers, roller rockers scorpions and so on. the owner (his brother rebuilt the engine and everything else) told me something about double point. thats one of my first questions. i dont know what he mean because he said something aboout the crankshaft ( but he also dont speak good english) but i guess he ment camshaft. he also thinks that this engine, except the injection is from a corvette, im not quite sure but i asked him if it could be, because that car is REALLY fast for that weight.

the only problem i could find was something with the autom. transmission. it doesnt shift in the 2nd gear. it gets up to 4000-5000rpm and shifts, but it sounds like it shifts from 1 to 3 and the 2nd gear doesnt work. first he hoped it could just be a adjust problem because they changed all those parts with the engine but it seems more like there is a gear missing. i guess you guys agree. so since i dont like automatic - for me thats for womans and people who cant drive (also in europe nobody everybody use standard), i would like to change that transmission to standard.

can anyone give me a link for some information how to do that step by step at this car? that would be great. maybe somebody here would like to exchange the transmissions as well. dont know if that could work but who knows.

i didnt had any time to get the car here yet and i only have some crappy pics in the dark with flash light, but maybe somebody can tell me some more about this engine looking at the pics. here the links:

oh and one pic from the car itself:

just need some paint and love.

thank you for everybody taking the time to answer me and to help me finding out more about my new and first v8 project.

Welcome to the community
That search function above is an awersome tool..dont have to wait for some one to post....and saves ppl repeating yr after yr the same info.
!st V8..yeah know the feeling, even when experianced on European/british steel.
Once into it the American 'V8' is far more tollerant, easy than british/eurpean stuff...just dont get 'tied up with science' like one can with brit/eur.

hello. and what you suggest me to search for? i know how forums work, i host a few myself but for some questions you just want answers and help that really is about my case, or should i read one hundred postings about transmissions for example until i find a case that is similar to mine - or not..

there is a huge difference in the cars but i love both of them. i will miss the extreme power and feeling when the t3 turbo starts to work at 3000rpm but i also like the earthquake sound of an 350 engine. the good thing is.. a turbo kit is not even 1000 bucks, so sooner or later i want both in one. but for now i just would like to get started to fix the car with the most important stuff.

This site is mostly for first generation Camaros (not all - I know). Not trying to steer you elsewhere, but here is a site dedicated to third generation Camaros, which is what I think you have.

Here is a link for automatic to 5 speed conversion.

It sounds like a TV cable may be your transmission problem. If it is not adjusted properly it will shift so fast it is like 1st gear to 4th (overdrive) instantly.

If it shifts at high rpms, you might want to check the vacuum modulator on the trans for being in good repair or the vacuum line from the intake manifold to the vac mod itself.

A leaky line or broken diaphram can prevent it from upshifting with light throttle.
Or check to make sure the throttle valve is properly adjusted at the carburetor connection.

ok thx for the tips. i gonna check as soon i have him at my house. i hope its only that, at least i had some time to prepare a standard transm. the last owner said also he thinks it could be the tv cable which makes sense because they just got that new engine and transmission in the car and never drove it. i just drove it 2 times and it starts to vibrate a lot in the car while waiting at higher rpm (but without pushing full throttle) for the shift. i dont know if a vibration like that is normal for a v8 but im pretty sure its not. but i cant really tell because the engine is pretty loud and i just drove the car 2 times for testing. but what i also realized was that the first 3 gears for manual shifting below "d" dont work either. i cant even get it more down than "d". i dont know if that is normal with a kind of transmission like that (he said turbo 350).
