seems like once a car's value exceeds $100K, all kinds of crazy things happen.

I always thought the contest was helping him FIND THE CAR.

they were offered a $25k finder's fee- my guess is that they took that money and used it to get a lawyer to try to get the $250k they think they deserve.
i guess it ultimately comes down to how the rules of the contest were worded, and if they changed it mid stream. my recollection was that it kid of started off as the Papa John's guy saying "i want my car back, does anyone know where it is" and then morphed into a full fledged contest once someone at corporate figured they could get a bunch of publicity out of it..

I have concuded some people are idiots, and the seriousness is intensified only by money.
Let me get this staright, they get 25K$ to help him find his old car at no cost to them, I'm pretty sure I would do it for free and the cash would be a bonus. I mean seriously people.....

Unfortunately they will probably win the lawsuit as most of these peons looking for free money do. According to them everyone deserves free money from someone elses hard work or good fortune. This is one time I wouldn't mind being selected for jury duty and laughing as they read the case.

DON'T MESS WITH MY PAPA JOHN'S PIZZA!

Why do people always have to sue to make a quick buck nowadays? This is sad.

So far it sounds like Papa John's is the one doing the suing. It seems the one couple contacted the guy with the car and title and told him PJ's was offering $125k reward for the car, half of what it really was.

When that couple did't get the $250k they threatened to sue which prompted PJ to act first...

the couple that knew where the car was tried to sue Papa John's after "only" getting a $25k finder's fee for doing nothing but making a couple of phone calls, and Papa John's filed a counter suit against them for fraud in trying to get the $250k. the guy that actually had the car got paid the $250k for the car.
normally, i'm on the side of the little guy, but this time i'm rooting for the big multinational corporation to win.

You have more info than provided then, the article referenced said they threatened to sue and PJ was sueing them to prevent them from damaging the business and for fraud...

Guy should have done what ever he needed to do to buy the car and then presented it to Pappa Johns and collected the full 250k

Pappa John is good in my book. though i didnt take them up on the offer of a free pizza, i think that free pizza to camaro owners was a pretty cool jesture. can you imagine how much pappa john could have dished out if every camaro owner took him up on his free pizza offer.

No, they know that some scumbag has a whole year to plot and plan for a lawsuit. "I wrecked my car going to get the pizza", "They said one topping, cheese doesn't count as a topping". I can hear it now.
