I was lucky enough to get all the receipts from the guy I bought the car from in '04. Back in 1997 a GM 10 bolt 8.2 limited slip was installed with 3.55 gears. I have a gear whine under slight acceleration (under hard acceleration I can only hear the engine) Nothing when slowing down. I plan to pull the cover tomorrow replace the gasket and fill it will Lucas 85-140 as I have had good luck with Lucas products. Other than metal shavings in the oil is there anything I should be looking closely at while the cover is off? it has been beat on for years with no problem but the whine bothers me. Any advice?
Thanks gang:thumbsup:

Look for chips on the gear teeth, Smear marks on the ring gear teeth drive side, any broken parts in the posi.

Everything looked great. Went to Pep Boys for a gasket for the 10 bolt.
When I got home it was for a 12 bolt. Went back and got a new gasket. It was for the old style 10 bolt. Went back and they did not have the newer style gasket in stock, so I bought the chrome Spectre 10 bolt cover with bolts and a rubber gasket. The Lucas 85-140 diff lube was taking forever through a 1/4" line & funnel, so I had to go buy some thin wall 1/2" line at the hardware store. Finally got her filled up and now I'm smoking ribs. Seems like everything that should take an hour or so ends up being 4 or 5. Such is gear head life I guess. have a great weekend :beers:
