: LOUDER!
meat Aug 9th, 00, 12:52 PM I have an '86 305 Z28 that I just recently put a Dynomax Super Turbo muffler on.
I find it not quite loud enough. The exhaust is a single cat system with a single muffler.
Any recommendations for louder mufflers?

MarkM Aug 9th, 00, 04:43 PM Take a piece of pipe and a hammer and hollow out the cat, that will ad some noise.

BitsNPieces Aug 10th, 00, 03:42 PM Hey if you want loud, knock out the inside of your cat and put on some glasspacks. That will make it louder.
pdq67 Aug 10th, 00, 04:32 PM Hey, don't knck your cat out, but do put a glas-pak on it. I will say that it won't be long before the "drone" of the glas-pak will get to you and you will want to tone it down just a tad. It wasn't with a cat, but been there, done that. pdq67
Chris Edwards Aug 11th, 00, 06:30 AM dont do either of that. go to summitracing.com and order the high flow converter, it flows 80%more than the stock honeycomb clogger, then do a glasspack , all the camaros and firebirds have a single in duel out pipe. you need to find a glasspack with a 3" inlet and duel 2.5" or 3" outlets, good luck on that one, since most glaspacks are tube type mufflers, I currently have the dynomax high flow converter and a Y pipe where the 3" tube comes over the rear end, then back out to duel 3" chrome tails. it sounds GREAT!, dont backfire like a glas pack does, and pisses off the neighbors immensly. I love it. top that off with my TBI intake, NOS powershot , low ratio pullies , and lower gears in the rear, and that will rock, either that or get a 350 crate motor

meat Aug 29th, 00, 02:21 PM Hey, thanks for all the info!
But will the high-flow cat itself make a noise difference rather than doing a glasspack? I'd like to get away with that if I can....
DEVIL'S LAKE Aug 29th, 00, 06:26 PM put dual coverters on it with some 3" on it with some dyno's on it.
Mark W. Winning Aug 30th, 00, 03:08 AM Put a Flowmaster on it. They don't make them much louder than that. Hell, you can have mine....its TO LOUD! http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif

Big Block Dave Aug 30th, 00, 06:00 AM I'm with Mr Winning......the single in dual out flowmaster for the 82-92 Z-28 is pretty growly...had one on mine.
For the love of pete, please don't put a glasspack on a car like that....its just wrong. Late model F-bodys have a different appeal and class than a 1957 Nomad wagon. http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif

ChrisR Aug 30th, 00, 10:03 AM I dithe chrry bomb thing on my GTA 350 TPI. it sounded pretty cool at first. then i got some headers and mandrel-bent Y-pipe, and for some reason, it sounds like crap all of a sudden. i think maybe because it is flowing more and there is like, hardly any back-pressure at all. It is really pukey at low RPM's, but at 2500 or up it sounds cool. Go with a flowmaster or try this new one "raVin'". They are new and they seem pretty cool.
Charles Aug 30th, 00, 12:42 PM Add a Flowmaster. I have the crossflow style on mine and it's great. Also gut out that dang Cat. Don't forget to add a K&N air filter.

meat Aug 30th, 00, 01:55 PM Hey, you guys seem to be big on these Flowmasters! Any suggestions for a certain kind of Flowmaster? Thanks in advance.....
JWA Aug 30th, 00, 11:55 PM If you want loud and not tinny like a flowmaster try the Dynomax Race magnum. I have a pair of these on my 69 SSRS in a 3 inch system and they are a lot louder than the 3 chamber flows on my 68 Chevelle and have a good deep growl to them. They are too loud for my taste though. Matter a fact this winter the Camaro will probably be getting a more mellow exhaust. Good Luck.

Mark W. Winning Aug 31st, 00, 03:52 AM Flowmaster makes a 2 chamber just for 3rd gen cars. Thats the one I have. Got it from Summit, but my local muffler shop had them in stock also. By the time I paid shipping, it would have cost the same. Oh well, live and learn.

427TRI Aug 31st, 00, 05:43 AM Meat Ontario CA, or Ontario Canada?
Either way, go to www.magnaflow.com (http://www.magnaflow.com) and find a local installer. These muffs are louder than the ST's and very high quality.Part #12267 is 3" in/2.5" out, 12266 is 2.5" in and 2.25" out.

Camaro4life Sep 1st, 00, 01:02 PM PUT A FLOWMASTER 80 SERIES I HAVE IT ON MY 88 CAMARO RS AND ITS LOUD AND DEEP
Knight7 Sep 1st, 00, 06:57 PM Wow everyone here does seem to like Flows...I was actually considering Borla XR1 mufflers for my 68...does anyone have experience with these? I have to run the exhaust pipes out in front of the rear tires, so I won't melt my fiberglass monosprings.
Personally, my definition of NOISE is having the windows down and about 200W of heavy metal waking the dead (gotta love White Zombie!). Hehe.
Chris Edwards Sep 6th, 00, 06:12 AM I personally thing Borlas sound like a big fart.
they just dont have the "cool sound" your gonna be looking for, flowmaster only makes the (1) muffler style for late 3rd gen cars, the single 3" inlet and duel 2.5 outlets. I think you can get a 2 chambered, but normally the one is a 3 chamber, although it sounds good, it still could use a little more umph. my wife said mine was loud. but I didnt think so , so I drove around with the hatch proped up, it sounded ok. but still not loud enough. so thats when I went with the glasspack, its a small one like that of the flowmaster, single in , duel out, 3" all the way. and either get a high flow converter and a 2 or 3 chamber flowmaster, Or get the single in duel out glasspack, OR better yet, just get the high flow converter, and a Y pipe to make duel tips. it will sound Freakin awesome.... I saw a 96 LT1 with that combo and it was really really really sweet...
(backfiring didnt seem to be a problem either but you never know.)

Mark W. Winning Sep 6th, 00, 07:26 AM Cam also makes a big difference in how "loud" a car is. I have a 2 chamber flowmaster on my 92'. At idle it has a fairly loud crackle, but at WOT, it really drowns everything else out. Us 3rd and 4th gen drives are just not able to put the mufflers up front to enjoy the sound for ourselves.

pdq67 Sep 7th, 00, 03:41 AM Anybody ever try the "Warlocks" with the removable plate on the rear on one side that opens them up like "cut-outs"???
Seems like an easy way to fit cut-outs.
Also, from the past, I remember "Steel-packed" Continentals, (metal turning filled glas-paks), do they still sell them??? They didn't burn out, were straight through but heavy. Just curious. pdq67
Mark W. Winning Sep 7th, 00, 04:15 AM I have never tried the Warlocks, but I did have a set of those dump caps welded before my mufflers. Basically it was just a small 3" y with a cap wing nutted on one branch. Normally, the exhaust flowed through the mufflers, but at the track, I just removed the caps. Worked great.

Jeff H Sep 7th, 00, 07:32 AM Get a bigger y-pipe(SLP or Borla), 3" MORFLO cat and the Flowmaster cat-back. My 93 gets pretty loud when I wind it out and has a serious rumble at idle. People think I have a big block in it. Heck, you can't even hear my supercharger with the exhaust I've got.

gearhead67 Sep 7th, 00, 05:38 PM Too bad these muffler web pages don't have any sound files so we can hear them or at least get an idea on what they would sound like. I have wound my window down many times at stoplights to ask what they had for an exhaust system. I ask wheather I like it or not so I know what everything kinda sounds like. I know I can't be the only one hear on this site that rolls down the window to appreciate a good sounding exhaust. Ears on training! http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif
