Summit has a bunch of them when I looked the other day. Search "timing tab" on their website. Also get some timing tape if your balancer is not degreeded...

I have an aluminum timing cover on my big block and after calling and searching was told(by Summit) no timing tab will fit. So, I made one. Don't be too surprised if you keep buying ones that are supposed to fit and they don't.

Mr Gasket at NAPA. Perfect. But be sure to remove ALL oil and dirt. Also leave a little room from the inner edge of the balancer so you can daub paint on it to match your tape. That way you have a backup. Just like your computer. And be sure to apply in the right direction.

I used a GM indicator. For an 8" balancer. It bolts with the bolts for the timing cover. I don't know on the aluminum cover though.

I'm in the same boat as you. A cast aluminum cover is over 1/4" thick so when you bolt on a regular timing tab that has multiple degrees on it, it winds up sticking out past the damper so you cannot see the timing mark on the damper.

Tony, if you have a degreed balancer I would recommend using a Dremel or tin shears to make the tab into a "pointer" by trimming away everything except the 0 mark. Or, you can do what I did and use a white paint pen to draw a line on the face of the balancer in line with the 0, 10, 20, and 30 marks. Just start on the lines on the tab, then continue them over the edge and onto the face. With that, I can see the numbers on the balancer below the tab and tell what paint marks are showing on the face in line with the 0 mark on the tab. Just set my timing today with this method. So say with 36 degrees of total advance, you should see the white 30 degree mark on the face of your balancer line up with the 6 degrees advanced point on your timing tab.

I've been too lazy to take my own advice and pull the tab off and trim it into a pointer. Having a power steering pump and water pump in the way made me think of marking the face of the balancer.
