I have a '69 Camaro with an LM1 and TH350. I am replacing the kickdown cable as the ears are broken off of the cable where it goes through the intake bracket. I removed the old cable and the end fit snuggly into the tranny with an O-ring. The new cable end on the tranny side is a smaller diameter with no O-ring. I'm thinking this won't seal when installed. I bought the cable from a national parts restoration house out of CA. The description said it fit "68-75 TH350" and is an original GM part. Did I get the wrong cable or am I missing something?

Did it come in GM packaging ? If not, return it !

Yes, it came in GM packaging. The GM part number on the package is 342486.

That looks like the part# that I come up with too. Do you have a caliper, to measure the new vs. the old ? Is the o-ring larger (fatter) than the old one ? the end is held to the transmission with a bolt, so if it will seal, it should work.

I believe that new cable takes a "top hat" seal. I think there are issues with the o-ring style breaking at the groove and leaking.

Does anybody know where to get the "top hat" seal for the new cable?

I found the answer to my previous question. I went to a local ransmission shop and they gave me a seal. They said the old o-ring type of seals would harden from tranny heat and begin to leak. They tried two o-rings and that didn't work either. Now they use the "top hat" seal. There is also a filler tube replacement with a similar seal which works much better than the o-ring type. Thanks for your help.

The 'top hat' seal is GM's second design - works great, IMO.

To change the subject just a little bit, did you guy's see that ad in Hotrod this month, by Summit, page 30? A dress-up kit for TH400's complete with kick down cable. Yeah, Summit. Honest.
