I have been practising some quick shifting to prepare for my first time at the track.I am getting worse not better.
I could never find 3rd to well and now it is getting worse and worse. It is almost like I have created a slot between 1st and 3rd. It can actually get caught there. Any thoughts?
Purchased trans in 06 and has 4000 miles on it now.

My experience has been that you can not grab the shifter knob and shift a TKO as if it were an older Muncie or ST10. If you try to "row" it into 3rd gear you will miss it every time. THe best way to make the 2-3 shift is with an open palm and simply do a quick "bump-bump" forward and your there. The TKO self centers into the 3-4 gate so the first bump you disengage 2nd and the next bump you go into 3rd. It is almost a straight line but obviously not perfectly straight.

Your clutch choice can play a small part in shifting difficulty if you are shifting at higher rpms say over 6000(prolly not necssary with a 690hp BBC) but I have been successful at 6800rpm if I don't try to force it. I am not running anything special with mine.....Ram billet flywheel, Ram diaphram pressure plate and right now a Centerforce Gold disc. Clutch adjustment can also be part of difficult shifting especially if not completely disengaging like it should. How does it shift under normal driving conditions? Did you dial in the bell housing before installing the trans? Making sure the bell housing is in line with the crankshaft centerline within the TKO manufactures specs is critical.

Hope this helps some!

Join the club...this is a known issue with the trans. You need to modify your shifting style. Do not grab the shifter tight and try to steer. Rather, with an open palm, "palm" the shifter straight forward..she'll find 3rd everytime.

I wouldn't even call it an issue. A bunch of us went through this together when the tko fad hit hard 4-5 years ago.
It's simply how it is. If you try to steer it, you will fail. The trans knows it's way to third. Push and it will find.

I will adjust the clutch,it is going to the floor before it disengages...I have had more trouble lately since I have recently changed engines. The clutch looks good but we only used a centering tool on it not a dial indicator I will continue to work on my palm shifting. It is tuff to do in a hurry! If these tips don't help I guess I will pull it out and realign. Thanks guys.

it is for sure tough to do in a hurry, too much adrenaline!

Readjust that clutch for sure. I like mine so it will load the engine a good 3" off the floor, that way you can just kinda "fan the clutch" when shifting gears. If your linkage is right you'll still have some freeplay.
