: Recruiting new members - Question to Admin/Site Owners
zlek131 Sep 8th, 09, 01:48 PM So I've been to 2 car shows this past weekend and talked to a dozen camaro owners. Not a single one of them has heard of TeamCamaro. I tell them that they need to checkout this site as this is hands down the best camaro forum out there. I do this because I know how much this site has helped me and given I'm a nice guy, I simply want the other camaro owners out there to have the same opportunity to get their questions answered. Telling someone at a car show to go and checkout www.camaros.net (http://www.camaros.net) only goes so far. Chances are that by the time they get home they have forgotten talking to me or forgotten the site's address. Giving them something that has www.camaros.net (http://www.camaros.net) written on it goes much further.
Having said that, anyway the new owners could print up something that resembles a "business card" and send it to the members like me that are interested in passing them out during car shows to camaro owners not currently part of TC? Cheep way of advertising and potentially generating revenue as I am sure for every 10 new free members one or two will turn into paid member...
Melrose RS Sep 8th, 09, 01:54 PM I've had a similar experience - talking to Camaro owners at shows and having them be unaware of Team Camaro.
Maybe an "official flyer" that could be printed off the site and handed out to Camaro owners at the shows would work.

"official flyer" - even a better idea. TC can create it and simply email it to us so we can print it and distribute it out. Ummmm, my original "cheap" idea of advertising just went to free advertising idea! (I won't charge TC for the paper and ink.... :D )
SPARKY69 Sep 8th, 09, 02:12 PM good idea ..most people i talk too never heard of team camaro..i always tell them about it..im selective who i tell though??
novaderrik Sep 8th, 09, 02:17 PM there could just be a page with a pdf file on it that has the site info on it- maybe have all the other "team" sites listed on the bottom, too.
just go to the page and print it out. no need for email.
Z28 Mark Sep 8th, 09, 02:35 PM I have a blown up print of the site logo "Team Camaro" and my posting name that goes on the dash at every car show. You know you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink....
Steptoe Sep 8th, 09, 02:37 PM Camaros.net is international...
A couple yrs ago in NZ I seemed to be about the only Kiwi/ Aussie
I have promotted camaros.net simply on the friendlyness of the members, and the information and help avalible... I emphase Camaro SSSSS .net if dont write it down
Since then we have had quite a few from down under joining,
Also have remet quite a few guys at shows and stuff...they may not join but certainly browse /search the forums etc.
I would join, but while the Fed is printing money hand over foot, the subs are more ex*****ive than our car club subs, then add tax, and the cut on the exchange rate...
2 things that would promote, a cnr window transfer and metal bumber emblem, like the old automoble assoc....AAA I think in the states....
yeah know there is already something like this for members...offshore membership/promotion is maybe something to look at....and as far as sponsers go...we get our parts downunder from the westcoast....
rj68RS Sep 8th, 09, 02:46 PM For the RV club I'm in we print our own cards, cut them out, and have as handouts. A member of the club created a template with a logo and place for name, email, and phone info to be filled in and it is replicated 10 times per page. Yeah they aren't on heavy weight card stock but waddaya want for free ?

but the flyer idea would actually send the water home with the horse...

Yeah, I get a bunch of flyers in my car at shows. And I actually read them!
In order to track the effectiveness of this type of marketing you'd need a code of some type that the newb enters when they first come to the site. Then at the end of the year, for example, you could say that x number of new memberships can be attributed to flyer distribution.
crustyz11 Sep 8th, 09, 09:25 PM Great idea guys! I'd be spreading the good word also.
zlek131 Sep 20th, 09, 10:35 PM Somewhat surprised the new owners haven't jumped on this idea and come up with pdf we can all print and hand out at car shows for free... Anyway, here is my team camaro sticker I added on my car this weekend...

HwyStarJoe Sep 21st, 09, 05:37 AM I have no less than 5 TC stickers on my truck. :)

New owners? Have I missed something???
DjD Sep 21st, 09, 08:45 AM I moved this here to "site discussion" forum... Mark is right, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink. Team Camaro is a sponsor of our local club we both belong to. I have links back to TC all over our club site, we have had TC/CLNC get togethers, we even did a commemorative shirt for one event and I keep members appraised of changes here at TC such as the sale of the Team sites and new owners. Not many of the local club members are signed up here but I know a lot of them lurk, if you look at the "What's going on?" on the main forum page you will see Active user stats. Right now 132 members and 314 guests. Thats a lot of lurkers compared to participants... My point is the majority of car owners at car shows are not obsessed with the need for info on their cars. Google Camaro and camaros.net is on the 1st page of links, this site is not hard to find.
I'm not against the idea of members having business cards to hand out but rather just wondering if the cost to the site would be worth the return. It's just a few dollars to provide 1 member some cards but times hundreds really starts to add up! Anyway Don will see this here a lot quicker than in Bench Racing...
ROBS6T8 Sep 21st, 09, 09:08 AM I'm surprised too at the amount of people I see around town that don't know about Team Camaro. I tell them the address and go about my way. Like Dennis said, I don't think a lot of the owners of Camaros at the car shows need to work on their cars... unlike me! Just my .02

zlek131 Sep 21st, 09, 09:57 AM Dennis,
My business cards idea evolved into an official PDF document/flyer that we could simply print and hand out at car shows. No cost to TeamCamaro other than creating the PDF and linking it to here so we can get to it.
DjD Sep 21st, 09, 10:46 AM Matt - you are right, printing your own flyers would be no cost to the site... I intentionally didn't include my feelings on flyers in the first reply. I can't stand having my car used as a garbage can! I can't imagine how after cleaning my car, detailing the interior, making sure each seat belt is positioned properly, the floor mats are straight, the window cranks are all lined up, the ashtray is closed and everything but my do not touch sign is off the dash why someone would think I want flyers on my seats, floor boards (at least the guy leaving them there is trying) dash and on my windshield. I showed at Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterery and found a stack of over 50 flyers for a show 3 hours away left in my car. I have a convertible and they had blow all over the interior by the time I found them!
Ok rant off... I don't mind if folks hand out flyers at shows if they actually hand them to live bodys and don't get upset if someone says no thanks. If you were talking to me about TC and I had not heard of the site I might take a flyer from you if you had one.
What I have found being involved with clubs is a lot of folks have ideas which are great (don't take this wrong, I'm expressing an observation not casting stones) but they expect others to do the work. Maybe create your own TC flyer and e-mail Don asking if you could make copies to hand out and if he would mind hosting it for others to do the same. That way you are not just adding more to his already full plate.
What you have is actually a good idea if carried out right so don't take my posts as being against it...

Umm.....yes you have....TC is under new ownership.....with Al and Dot remaining as Admin's.

yellow69RS Sep 21st, 09, 09:06 PM A local club I belong to had "business cards" that we passed out. The original were folded to business card size and had a map to our meeting site inside. The next ones were simply business cards printed both sides with no map. The majority of the members said the folded ones took up tooo much space in their wallet. I wouldn't be opposed to having business cards but not fliers. I can put a business card or 5 in my wallet but I can't do that with a flier. A pdf could be made of a page of business cards and perforated card stock can be bought readily.

Lordy, and here I thought I was going above and beyond by getting the fast food containers and empty cups out of the rear footwells!

I agree with this 100%. Handing fliers to a person is the way to go, never just leave them loose in someones car as the club/site will just get blamed for littering.
I too would be happy to print some fliers and keep them in my car to hand out.
Dayton68Z28 Sep 22nd, 09, 10:57 AM I too speak to many 1st gen Camaro owners at car shows and they look at me  when I mention Team Camaro. One of my Camaro buds doesn't even have a puter!
Another local guy here in Chico has 5, 69 Camaros. 1 COPO and the rest are Z's. He has owned all these cars for 30+ years. I have been to his shop and seen these cars. He doesn't even take these cars to our local car shows. This man has a wealth of knowledge. I would love for him to share the knowledge he has in his head. Here is the problem, he doesn't even have email.
Like DjD said, you can lead a horse.........
crustyz11 Sep 22nd, 09, 06:56 PM The flyer idea is great. My clunker gets plenty of flyers tossed in it at shows, so i too despise that idea (not that i actually clean my car, i just don't like the thought of all those people leaning into/around the nice cars). I would simply keep a stack in my gloveboxes (car & truck) so that if people are interested i can hand them one.
Steptoe Sep 22nd, 09, 09:34 PM All great ideas, guys. Thanks for being proactive about stuff like this. We'll have a flyer for you within a week.
And also a businnes card...and in a download area for members to be able to print off when going to a show , or just carry a few in the wallet or car...
RamAirDave Sep 22nd, 09, 10:28 PM I have never been the least bit bothered by flyers being left inside the car at a show. I actually appreciate them since they may let me know about upcoming events I may not have known about otherwise. They're pieces of paper, no big deal.
If they want to hand them to me personally, that's fine (although I'm usually roaming around checking out other cars rather than sitting in the same place all day). But I'm just gonna turn around and set them into the car/trunk anyway :clonk:
68DaveV Sep 23rd, 09, 12:52 PM I vote for the business card sized document also. (to print, not sent out) Much easier to carry. I don't see myself walking around a car show with a handful of flyers. Maybe could keep a few in the glove box though.
Just this weekend I wrote the website address on the back of another flyer for a guy.
Steptoe Sep 23rd, 09, 02:51 PM A flyer , a business card,
And at the sugestion of the wife, something that can be stuck to the cnr of the windscreen a membership to Camaros.net that we can down load and print off...
Its ok for u guys stateside its worth becoming a paying member, but offshore, by the time postage, exchange rates etc are all taken into account its not worth it either way...
Also if a car has a membersticker there is no need to hassle the owner with a flyer etc.

Don,
Any progress on the flyer? Going to a car show tomorrow...
camaroluke Oct 24th, 09, 04:41 PM Its amazing how many people have zero idea what a auto forum online even is.
JimM Oct 24th, 09, 09:28 PM When I first met Jim "Click" Knudsen what nearly nine years ago, as hen shook my hand n=he handed me a Team Camaro busiiness card with his name on it and the logo, very nice looking card. He'd had those printed himself.
I like the idea of a form that would accept user input for name, phone number, email address, what ever and spit out a printable page with 10 or so business cards on it.
MStennes Oct 25th, 09, 05:57 PM I'm also amazed at the amount of Camaro owners who dont know aout this site. If their worthy, I will tell them. Actually one I know, who I grew up with ddoesnt need to know, if you saw his car you would understand fully. I have tried to help him but he just wont listen, so his loss, and our gain!
