Hey guys, I have a transmission problem I think. I have a 67 camaro with a 350/350trans. and while driving its fine but when I come to a stop light the car will try and speed up with the breaks on, I have to take the car out of gear to keep from going through the stop light. Thanks for any help

the transmission will not cause a high rpm. you got either broken motor mount on drivers side or sticking throttle rod against something.

Or a broken diaphram in the brake booster, if power brake equipped.

It does have power brakes but how can I tell if the brake booster has failed, it seams to stop fine but wants to take off after coming to a stop. Thanks again

A couple ways:
1. Stepping on the brake pedal requires alot of push, almost as if the engine is not running, and engine rpm goes up upon application.
2. Disconnect the vacuum line from the intake manifold and attach a hand vacuum pump to the booster and pump away to see if the booster holds a vacuum.

You mention the car wants to accelerate on its own after releasing the pedal. This action may be due to a lazy(?) pedal returning to its upper stroke position. If the pedal is still into the booster, the atmosphere valve is still open and an intake leak is present. This leak would cause the engine to speed up in rpm, much like removing the a small vacuum from the carburetor or manifold - remove the PVC hose - same idea.

You might pull back on the pedal with your foot next time this happens just to see what happens - in a parking lot or driveway.

I would check for broken engine mount first. Either open hood, place in gear, step on brake pedal hard, give alittle gas pedal and see if drvr side of engine raises up - fan might hit the shroud if excessive, or place a 2X4 across oil pan, jack up slightly with floor jack, and see if drvr side mount separates.

If there is a tugging sensation when at a stoplight. Could it be that he doesn't have quite high enough stall converter?

Hey guys, ive been at work and havent been able to check the booster but i have a comp280h cam and i havent had any problems in the past. Im hoping to check the booster this weekend. I have checked the motor mounts and there fine and the throttle rod is ok alsonot binding. The car doesnt tug in any way, it just idles up and the tires will spin with the brakes on until I take it out of gear, and the pedal feels the same also. Im going to look at the booster hopefully this weekend. I want to say thanks again to everyone. I will let yall know what I find out.
