Messing with the wiring on the ign and the sucker grounded, blew the fuse. Replaced fuse, but gen light does not come on when I turn the key. bulb tested OK. What did I blow?

I would get the alternator checked as you may have hurt the diodes, Also check your fusible links by your horn relay. In the future for safety reasons you should always disconnect the battery negative lead before working on the electrical system.

Thanks. Where is the horn relay located?

Engine side of radiator support driver side under the volt regulator.

OK. Found horn relay below voltage regulator. What is a fuseable link? Is this inside the horn relay?

The fusible link is attached to the horn relay, the orange section connected to the red wire.

Thanks. Found fuselink wires and tested oK.

I guess that leaves the alternator but its seems to be charging.

GEN light gets battery voltage to one side of the bulb when ign key is on, alt not running.
Volt regulator provides a low potential, almost ground, to other side of bulb when ign sw is in IGN.

So perhaps I cooked the voltage regulator?

Thats an easy fix with a cheap part from Autozone.

New part from Autozone installed. I assume the unit grounds itself to the body. Gen light still not going on.

Running out of ideas here.

If VR is bolted to the rad support on rubber wellnuts they call them, then a bonding strap goes from the bolthead to rad support to ground the VR chassis and hopefully place it and the alt case at the same potential, ground.

You might have destroyed the cluster motherboard or light socket/holder. With key on, eng off, one contact will have battery voltage, the other contact will have a lower voltage, maybe a volt or so. With engine running, VR wire #4 supplies electrical system voltage back to the GEN opposite of ign switch side to turn off the light.

You might read the stickies at the top of this section.
