hey guys

i just picked up my first car today, and was wondering if it was a good deal and maybe get some advice.

i payed 1000 dollars for a 1985 camarohttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/2.gif (http://www.camaros.net/forums/#) Z28, it has a 350v8 engine from a 1989 Iroc that was just rebuilt and only driven 2 months afterwards. it has a ugly home paint job but the body had no rust, dents or damage at all, interior is clean and also no damage. its a T top, has some high proformance parts like hedders on it.

now for the bad, it runs great but he said the tork converter was bad but my dad thinks its the trans, he knows how to put it in, but i was wondering if theres a way to tell which it is.

a new converter and other parts came with the car, but it would be a pain if i switched it and had to take it apart again cause it was the trans afterall.

Sounds like a pretty good deal on the car. What is trans doing? Noise?Slipping?

i just drove it for the first time, it drives and goes in reverse but after a few minutes it starts slipping and shifts into gears slower and slower.

Its more likely a bad transmission than a bad torque converter. If you end up replacing the trans, replace the torque converter at the same time and blow the trans cooler lines and radiator out. The number one cause of new transmission failure is crap left in the torque converter or the trans cooler lines or the radiator. 700R4's are plentiful and inexpensive. Similar year V8 Trans Ams and Camaro tranny's should interchange. Do a search on this site, I'm sure there's plenty of info on it.
