I am frustrated. I think i need to change my VR, its the original one, cause i am having dead battery issues. Battery checked, ok and so did alternator. I bought a new VR and tried to remove the old one, is there a secret to removing these. I can easily get a 5/16 on the head of the bolt, but the front side just keeps spinning!!!

cut out the rubber edges with an exacto knife or other sharp object. They are just stuck in there.

Grab the nut on the grill side with a pliers and turn it out.

Is it OK if these units are grounded to the car or do you need to replace with rubber mounts?

either way as long as there is good ground contact. If you use rubber mounts, use pigtail ground wire up to the grounding tab. :)
