I just bought my first Camaro (a 68). A couple weeks before I bought it the PO had a new exhaust system installed from the headers to the tailpipes, but, he did not have an "H" or "X" pipe installed. It is just straight pipe on each side. (it does have mufflers)
Would it be beneficial to put the cross over pipe in or just lest it go. It is my understanding that a cross over will change the exhaust tone a bit but I do not know what other affect it would have?
Please enlighten me.
Thanks

Because your engine fires unevenly, the exhaust tries to exit the same way. So when one pipe is filled with pressure the other pipe is relatively pressureless, but when you connect the two sides, the pressure is equalized between the two pipes and the exhaust can exit faster. "Air in, Air out", thus better engine perfomance.
