: On the radiator suppor what is this?
jeff_gates Sep 10th, 09, 09:05 AM I have a 68 conv, which has been around the block a few times. I never noticed it before but I see a black box on radiator support passenger side opposite of the battery. On the top there is a relay with the wires cut off and on the bottom I can press a small metal rod. Any Ideas?
Thanks,
Jeff

Bingo
zlek131 Sep 10th, 09, 10:31 AM Well...then here is the other news. Your 68 must have a 67 front clip or radiator support core on it. As those switches were used with a 67 electric RS headlamp doors. 68 used the vacuum ones and those switches were not needed. Is your 68 a RS clone? If so, it was cloned using the 67 front clip. Not a big deal...
jeff_gates Sep 10th, 09, 12:10 PM It does not look like the picture. The box is as big as my fist with the relay on top and a metal rod on the bottom that I can push up and it drops back down. I have no paper work on the car, the Vin shows that it was a white car with blue interior. Now it's red with black interior.

zlek131 Sep 10th, 09, 12:31 PM Got ya...for some reason I thought the "bingo" response came from you but it came from another member... Any way you can post a pic?
Eric Kammerer Sep 10th, 09, 12:33 PM Sounds like a voltage regulator that has been bypassed and left in place. Can you identify what you're seeing from the pics in the What it is, where it is section?

jeff_gates Sep 10th, 09, 01:56 PM The voltage regulator is on the drivers side in the engine bay on the radiator support, which I did bypass and remove. This thing is on the front side of the radiator support on the passenger side. Since it's not being used I'll unbolt it and snap a couple of pics.
Brandan Sep 10th, 09, 04:07 PM My educated guess would be the Flux Capacitor. It is only a hunch.
rogerh Sep 10th, 09, 05:19 PM You know a picture is worth a 1,000 words and you haven't given us there one. Just post a pic and I am sure we could answer your question.

jeff_gates Sep 10th, 09, 07:45 PM OK, I'm home from work and I removed it, I thought that it was the first black box data recorder. Now I think that it is a telegraph for the camaro...

markw Sep 10th, 09, 08:24 PM Kinda looks like an old fire alarm bell. Without the bell part, just the ringer.
Satatic Sep 11th, 09, 06:32 AM Maybe tap out something in morse and see what happens?
jeff_gates Sep 11th, 09, 07:05 AM It's strange, it was mounted on the car for a long time.
Jonesy Sep 11th, 09, 07:09 AM Probably part of an old car alarm that a previous owner installed.
