I have a 68 conv, which has been around the block a few times. I never noticed it before but I see a black box on radiator support passenger side opposite of the battery. On the top there is a relay with the wires cut off and on the bottom I can press a small metal rod. Any Ideas?

Thanks,
Jeff

Well...then here is the other news. Your 68 must have a 67 front clip or radiator support core on it. As those switches were used with a 67 electric RS headlamp doors. 68 used the vacuum ones and those switches were not needed. Is your 68 a RS clone? If so, it was cloned using the 67 front clip. Not a big deal...

It does not look like the picture. The box is as big as my fist with the relay on top and a metal rod on the bottom that I can push up and it drops back down. I have no paper work on the car, the Vin shows that it was a white car with blue interior. Now it's red with black interior.

Got ya...for some reason I thought the "bingo" response came from you but it came from another member... Any way you can post a pic?

Sounds like a voltage regulator that has been bypassed and left in place. Can you identify what you're seeing from the pics in the What it is, where it is section?

The voltage regulator is on the drivers side in the engine bay on the radiator support, which I did bypass and remove. This thing is on the front side of the radiator support on the passenger side. Since it's not being used I'll unbolt it and snap a couple of pics.

My educated guess would be the Flux Capacitor. It is only a hunch.

You know a picture is worth a 1,000 words and you haven't given us there one. Just post a pic and I am sure we could answer your question.

OK, I'm home from work and I removed it, I thought that it was the first black box data recorder. Now I think that it is a telegraph for the camaro...

Kinda looks like an old fire alarm bell. Without the bell part, just the ringer.

It's strange, it was mounted on the car for a long time.

Probably part of an old car alarm that a previous owner installed.
