What type of paint can I buy locally that would be a good self etching primer and satin black for my engine compartment? I've been to several places locally (home depot, frazee, etc.) and they either don't have what looks good to me or are unhelpful. I can find what I need online easily (Eastwood for example) but I'm hoping to paint this weekend. Any suggestions!

Jeff is looking for an on the spot purchase, not an order house. Try Napa or any other auto supplier. Hit and miss with these kinds of products for walk-ins.

You can get SEM paints at any bodyshop supply. Check the yellow pages. SEM sells self etching primers and paints that work great. Prep is everything

I push SEM all the time and have been using it for decades but many don't like it because it costs more than Rustoleum. I don't use anything but professional products. I've been in the business for decades. Quality products produce quality results.

Once I went SEM I never looked back. A little more costly but the results are worth it.:beers:

So, as it turns out, the (semi-)local auto paint store from where I bought the POR15 also carries SEM. I'm going there right now to get some more Metal Ready (damn rust!) and 3 aerosol cans of semi-gloss SEM paint for top coat. Sanding with 400 grit should be good enough to prep for the SEM top-coats? Or do I need something finer like 600 grit?
Thanks guys!

Since it wasn't mentioned in any of the other replies ...
Let me remind folks that your local NAPA dealer has (or can get overnight usually) the full lines of Sherwin Williams automotive finish materials
They have a couple of very good primer, filler and other basic prep paint products that are very cost effective and easy to use.
I've used their stuff on 5~6 projects so far and haven't had 'problem-1 with application, results or compatability with other brand products.
Here's just one past thread - http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=101348&highlight=NAPA
