Hey guys, I know this is similar to my earlier post but I still need some assistance. I have this Comp Plus shifter installed into a 69, BB, M-20. The arms are adjusted and it shifts perfectly. What I need to know is how does the position of the shifter look to you guys with a similar setup.
Searching older posts, I noticed that some guys had a problem with the shifter hitting the console. (which I have) Will that be the case here? Does anyone see a possible clearance issue?
Thx
Louie

Looks like your set-up locates the shifter too high and too forward
The correct 69 Camaro mount plates locate the shifter low and to the rear
I don't think your set-up will fit in the console
here is a pic of an OEM SB Hurst shifter

Joe, I see what you mean. Compared to your photo the whole assembly fits very high. Is your tranny a Muncie? I will re check the mounting bracket and see if it can be mounted lower.

Yep, the picture of the transmission from Joe is a Muncie. And it even seems to have the original tag hanging down from one of the bolts that holds the side cover on! Nice!

There are two different mounting brackets for the shifter body depending on if you have a big block or small block. They both mount the same but the big block one moves the body a little further away from the transmission since the big block is offset to the passenger side. Either way, it looks like yours is mounted incorrectly.
The stock-style plates let you pivot the shifter body to center it in the console so it doesn't hit the top and bottom. Side to side, you pretty much have to work with spacing the shifter arm on the shifter.

I pulled the shifter and this is the bracket. Doesn't look anything like a Big or small block bracket. It has a Hurst part # 1957773.

OK, that's the main problem then. That mount plate is for a full size.
You can buy the plate only which runs around $120 or get the whole reproduction linkage kit which comes with the plate for $210. I got the whole kit to fix mine as it came with a Corvette linkage on it. Mine is a SBC though so it's $90 less than the BBC model.
You may be able to search around and find the mounting plate cheap and perhaps your existing linkage will work with it. I didn't feel like having to worry about hardware and such so I just got the whole shebang but then again it was a lot cheaper for a SBC. The Hurst kit may be cheaper I don't know. I was worried about it not having the little slide clamp that lets you swing the shifter forward and back as well.
I got mine from D&R Classic's ebay store. Here's the BBC one.
