View Full Version : Single plane intake on a 327?

A friend of mine has a 69 with a 327 in it. He has a Performer RPM manifold and a 1" spacer. The car ran a 1/10th quicker when we put the spacer in. He's also running a 4000 RPM stall and 4.11 gears, shifting at 6500 - 6800 RPM. I was thinking a single plane manifold would help him out but unsure what would be best. I was thinking a Torquer 2 or Victor Jr but am thinking the Vic Jr would be too big. Any ideas?

It would help to know more about the combo, i.e. heads & cam but I vote for the Vic Jr. That 4000 stall will make up for any low end torque loss.

Stephen,

He's running Dart Iron Eagle heads, 11.5:1 domed pistons, a 650 double pumper and I believe Comp cams XE284. headers have 1-5/8 primary tubes with a very short 2-1/2" turn down exhaust.

Thanks

The Victor Jr would definitly be my choice then. You might try a 750 carb as well.

Victor Jr. definately. The dual planes are really cut out for much above 5-5500 IMHO. With that motor setup I agree with the above the Victor Jr. would be the way to go and you might try the 750 holley but personally I think that the 650 properly jetted would do just fine especially in a 327. MHO

I mistyped my previous post. I meant to say that dual planes are "NOT" cut out for the higher RPMs!

I agree with dellerbe about dual planes and 5000-5500 rpm. I had to fend off a bunch of armchair engine builders when I built my 350 4 years ago.Everyone said "dual plane for the street,no other way" blah...blah...blah.I went with my old Offy single plane(which I already had lying in the garage for nearly 10 years)and couldn't be happier. With my 4 speed and 3.73 I don't sweat over the loss of a bit of low end torque and when the tach starts heading over the 6000 mark I know the motor is not gonna starve for airflow.
