: style line alignment on door and quarter
hammerandnailhandyman Sep 14th, 09, 07:15 PM I am putting on new quarters with original doors. The style line in the middle of quarter and door does not line up. The quarter line is up a little higher than the door about 1/4 inch. I hate to missalign the door that much to make it match. Can I fix this with bondo later or is there another remedy?
Thanks Again
Garfields Maro Sep 15th, 09, 03:57 AM Hopefully ya havn't done much welding yet but imo, better try to reposition the quarter....1/4" is alot !! This isn't something filler will fix.
I presume the door has an aprox 3/16", consistent gap with the rocker ?
HwyStarJoe Sep 15th, 09, 05:06 AM How many shims are on top of the cowl, under the fender mounting point there?
You could try splitting the difference between the gap of the door to the rocker, and the shims on top of the cowl.

Doesnt matter, fender fit has nothing to do with it.
How much gap do you have along the bottom of the door to rocker? Adjust the door correctly without the striker in place, then fit the 1/4 panel to match the door.

hammerandnailhandyman Sep 15th, 09, 03:46 PM Door gap is good along quarter. Quarter is tight against top of rocker. Should I rebend the quarter where it fits on top of rocker so I can push quarter down to match style line?

Again, what does the door to rocker look like dimensionally? How is the top of the door in relation to the top of the quarter? I ask because if you rebend and suck the qrtr down you will also change the relationship of the top of door to qrtr top. Will rebending it maintain their relationship?

If the door is tight on top of the rocker raise the door, it will help a lot. then check back here.

Denvervet Sep 15th, 09, 05:39 PM I agree....raise the door up and if needed (likely) weld a piece of rod to bottom of door to close up door to rocker (lower gap). Mucho easier then moving the quarter down.
Garfields Maro Sep 16th, 09, 12:26 AM H&NHM hasn't answered the door to rocker gap question yet ???
....but modifying the door to accomodate a poor fitting 1/4 panel isn't the answer, imo. Next it'll be the fender, cowl panel ......

hammerandnailhandyman Sep 16th, 09, 08:27 AM Door to rocker is actually up a little in the back by quarter. I will try to realign door to get a better fit before I do anything drastic to the quarter. The top of the quarter is up a little from the door at the top, about the same as the style line. The rest of the quarter seems to fit pretty good compared to right side of car. It looks like stamping was off a little at front of quarter. I will continue to try and get a good fit before I do any cutting or welding.
Thanks
