1967 camaro RS(maybe RS)the car is in primer doesn’t have original engine as it was changed out though a 350..looks like a nice car, I called the owner he did have 1 person interested but they backed out, he is at 9500k firm ,, I asked if the car would make it 900 miles he said he wouldn’t suggest anyone drive the car that long of a distance at all and he went on for 10 minutes saying he was a trust-worthy seller and just wouldn’t drive it any "long distances", but that she does fire right up and he doesn’t hear any knocking etc?

I like the car thus far I have run into 2 sellers that are adamant against driving their vehicles any long distances. This worries me when people sell at 10k but then say don’t drive her far? I suppose they know it going to take some more additional restoration and that 10k or so is a good deal, He stated the car doesn’t have matching numbers there is no way to show that it is a true RS or if she was simply converted he stated to me the car had been sitting for 16 yrs but then towards the end of the conversation 30 minutes later in time he said he had purchased it just a little while ago? I think he is actually selling it for his brother, and im also guessing it was a recnt ebay purchase at 1 point however this is speculation only and means nothing.

So I’m thinking he was told allot of the info from the previous owner. I told him I wanted to catch a flight and drive her back his voice sanked and he said Evan seriously I wouldn’t drive this any long distances at all or for that matter out of town, he is telling me the truth and does seem very honest and sincere, my heart wants the car but at the same time I know this is a project car and needs work.

The car is in primer because the seller told me the last owner used air craft stripper on it and it had all kinds of different colors so he got it primered, there are some holes that he did send me pictures of on the rocker panel, and fenders etc, the lights and turn signals etc don’t work and I just don’t know at maybe 10,200 the car shipped it would need an engine over haul and a good paint job, the interior is straight needs some TLC headliner, arms rests etc, the speedometer doesn’t work he says some1 took out the cable all together? Doesnt remember when the last time it ever worked. It needs tranny work all around... the car does have AC which he said does work (blower turns on) since he is in a colde climate ther wasnt a need for AC and she has been sitting for 16 yrs? so I don’t know, he wants cash nothing else,,

In my opinion the facts are 10200-10500 assuming I find a carrier to pick it up and ship it. He wants to be paid first etc, I understand that, I asked him if he would consider PayPal or a bank that would give him a cashier’s check after signing over the title? he wants cash, I’m not sure I could fly with 10k at the airport lol with security and all also there isn’t a damm wellsfargo at all where he is at..

I am crazy enough though to jump in her and drive her anyways but that could be very childess as he did say the car is yours once I get the money but he just wouldn’t feel right about me trying to actually leave town and hit the open highway lol if he says he wouldn’t do it than I do feel she is on her last leg. I explained to him that I have 1st generation camaros and I have no problem jumping in them and driving to new York coast to coast as I know how they run and he said he wouldn’t do that and wouldn’t feel right if I did that as its almost 1k miles from him and 20 hrs driving thus he is being an honest to me as possible, they cleaned her up prime red her and washed the engine.

thus at 10200 low I would need an engine over haul, transmission overall power-glide probably another tranny all together like a 350TH and I would need a paint job,, it would after all that be about 17-18k on the low end and imp thinking dang the seller knows this and deducted those things and is at 10k in the ball park... so what is she really worth please?

The car though doesn’t look bad and with some TLC could be a nice car...

The seller is extremley friendly and sincere, he could say sure just come on over pay me and jump in and drive here home 1k miles, he isnt saying that at all. Any thoughts or suggestions?

The drivability could be any number of things from the tranny/engine issues to major rust issues making the car unsafe.

I can not see this car being worth the kinda money it would take after dropping 10,000 out of the gate on it. It's in primer not ready for paint, you say it has some holes, I'm assuming rust, needs the engine rebuilt as well as the tranny. One of the PO's used stripper on it so you'll possibly need to deal with that coming back out of hidden areas. Plus you really have to wonder why if he was prepping it for paint he put all the trim back on it if it was just sitting. If it's been outside unless it's been well sealed water will have gotten through the primer.

My car looked much cleaner to begin with and there is no way I'll finish this side of 30,000 in her.

If you are really serious get a pic of the trim tag and go over it with a fine tooth comb and I do mean everything, Mine had newer carpet and undercoating plus a Bondo wizzard had his way with it prior to paint, what was hidden under that was a totaly different story.

Here's a few pics so you can get an idea of just how far off things can be.
-the floor was like lace ton of patches and rust
-windshield frame was rusted out
-rockers completely gone but covered with newer metal hidding the issue
-rust in the rear quarters and really bad quarter patches
-both frame rails disintegrated at the front spring pockets when removing the springs and the right rear one broke off as soon as the spring weight dropped down
etc. etc.

thanks he did send some pictures which do show holes the size of a quarter maybe bigger on the fenders, rocker panel etc, that will need to be patched, he didnt fix any of that before the primer he says he wouldnt drive the car any long distance at all,

im just afraid of the cost factor it could take to restore it, i already have a 67 and 68 camaro so this would be a nice to have additional but with 2 kids i have to be very careful, it looks nice but its so far away to really know what is going on with it and he would rather i pay him electroically and have the car trucked to me after he gets the money.. i know the car doesnt have posi traction everything was left stock except for the engine swap.

please see some pics he doesnt have pics of underneath but says it sholuld be pretty solid?

It looks like there are dents in the front left fender as well when you look at the picture. In all honesty if it was me there is no way that I would buy that car with out first going there and going over it in person. He may very well be a honest person but then again you do not know him, and there are tons of scams in this world.

You need to look out for yourself and in my mind that means you need to see the car in person (and take a friend with you, they can be invaluable at seeing things you might miss) before handing over any cash and being able to take the car with you when the deals done if you elect to buy it weather it's on a trailer, in a truck or being driven.

Are you just really wanting a 67 rs car or what? This doesn't seem to be a great deal on a car. Not being negative just trying to figure out why you want it so bad.

I agree with Russ...Not a great deal. If there are rust holes in the rockers, you can bet you are going to find a lot more once you get her home and really start digging!! Im sure you can find something closer and nicer if your patient.

X2. By far no expert here, but for that money, you could do better. Don't get tunnel vision on one car.

Matching numbers have nothing to do with determining if it's a true 67 RS or not as you stated. It's on the Trim Tag. http://www.camaros.org/numbers.shtml#67Codes Too much coin for that car anyway.

As much as I like 67 RS's, $10k + shipping + airline ticket out to see it = too much for that car, I'd say.

I'm with everyone else, pass on this one Evan. You'll find something better for that kind of money.
