: What type of Headers to use?
gab712 Sep 16th, 09, 04:44 AM I am looking to put a set of short style headers on my wife's 69 camaro with a 350. I would like to NOT have to dent or ding them and NOT have to fool with the steering linkage in any way. What type of header could I purchase that fits this bill and still be able to get to all the spark plugs. She has a bone stock car with chambered exhaust????
zdld17 Sep 16th, 09, 06:34 AM For this type of car and application , many of the block bugger headers would work. If thats your choice, you could get Sanderson, some of the best or you can get the lesse expensive Jegs / Summit models. Don't forget the flanges that put you into the header exhaust pipes.
Another type of long tube header that works well on stock motors, is the Thorley Tri Y , they are small tube type headers that help little motors produce torque and hp.
TJS69 Sep 16th, 09, 09:23 AM Just a warning that many short tube headers, have the collector right at the steering box, on a first generation Camaro and they do not clear ! They work fine on a 2nd generation Camaro as the steering box was relocated to the front of the crossmember. (front steer)

Only set that do clear well is the Thorley 376Y-1. I had no issues with these but the do choke high rpm motors, or at least did mine. Had it not been for the larger port cly heads, I would still have them.

Don,
I am not sure what you are trying to say ? Do you want the Thorley's added to the above chart or are you doubting the chart ?
We have been able to "fix" almost all the issues, that have been encountered ! That is the reason for the chart.
I have heard of the Thorley's fitting well, but I am unsure as to which type of frame mounts etc. were used.

gab712 Sep 18th, 09, 04:44 AM Thanks Fellas: I never heard of some of these headers before. I will start my search this weekend. Again thank you very much...

Add if you wish, They do fit well with stock sbc frame mounts and block mounts. But I have heard that they do not fit cars with Pg trans, just as the footnote indicates.

Don, By saying small Block mounts, do you mean the 327 mounts ? In 1969 the 350/302 used different mounts.
Small block does not mean they used the same mounts for all small blocks. And yes, it does matter.

OK, I was referrng to mount stands for a 69 302/350, the 507 & 508 # ... And I understand the 327 and 302 GM mounts are supposed to be differant but when using the short wide versions, these Thorleys will fit. I can't say for sure about these tall/narrow mounts. I use Energy mounts 3-1114g.

I believe the 507 and 508's are for the "tall and narrow" engine mounts.
The 69 302/350 engine mounts are the tall and narrow.
The 3-1114g Energy suspension mounts are the "short and wide"
Which do the Thorley's work with ?
Guest174 Sep 18th, 09, 01:43 PM Tom, I believe he answered that question here:

Do the Thorley's fit these ?
when using the short wide versions, these Thorleys will fit.
I can't say for sure about these tall/narrow mounts.
Then why even mention the 507 and 508's. These are for the "Tall and Narrow".
I use Energy mounts 3-1114g.....These are "the short and wide" mounts.
Please answer the 2 simple questions :
Short and Wide - Do the Thorley's Fit ?....Yes....No....I don't know
Tall and Narrow - Do the Thorley's Fit ?....Yes....No....I don't know
I still am not sure what you are trying to say.
