: Intake Manifold ???
Myfirst 69SS Sep 16th, 09, 01:27 PM Looking for a few answers and thought you guys may be able to help.
I am looking to change my factory cast intake to a Edelbrock Performer #2101 http://www.jegs.com/i/Edelbrock/350/2101/10002/-1 manifold on my 69.
I currently have 2.02 fuelie angle plug heads with factory exhaust manifolds. I want to keep my original carb with divorced choke set-up.
Will the factory cowl induction air cleaner still fit properly under my hood?
Will I see an increase in performance?
Steve69SS396 Sep 16th, 09, 02:11 PM You won't have any clearance issues with that manifold and it should pickup a few HP compared to the stock cast iron intake. I ran the Performer RPM #7101 with the stock cowl air cleaner. The 2101 is a little shorter than the 7101.

If I only pickup a few HP is it worth doing?

It's up to you. Me, I would change the manifold and put headers with new exhaust on it. :beers:

Not unless you are going to make other changes. You will only gain 5 to 10 hp at the most.

Headers are not an option because I want to keep my factory reverse linkage.

Which linkage are you refering to?

reverse lock out for my 4-speed.

Headers should not cause any problem with that linkage.
Myfirst 69SS Sep 16th, 09, 04:40 PM I always thought the headers interfere with the linkage.

According to your signature you have a Muncie M20 trans and I assume a floor shifter? If so, there should not be any problem. I think some headers may interfere with some column shift linkage.
I had an M22 in my car with a Hurst Competition Plus shifter.
Myfirst 69SS Sep 16th, 09, 04:54 PM There is no way headers are making it past this linkage.

Tell me yes and I am buying headers.

You have a column shifter with a Muncie M20 transmission? A column shifter does present a problem. I have not run headers on a car with a column shifter, hopefully somebody who has can chime in.
Here is one that should work. It says it can be used with floor or column shifted automatic or standard transmissions.

Myfirst 69SS Sep 16th, 09, 05:16 PM That is not a column shifter. It is linkage that operates reverse lights and prevents the key from being removed if not in reverse. All 69's with 4 speed floor shifter were equipped with them.

My car did not have the stock shifter.
The headers I posted should work. It says they will work with floor shifted standard trans.
