Hi Everyone,

I am a new member to TC, but have followed posts for years now. I have a 68 that I have encountered a lighting problem. It started last night with no dash lights (directionals, hazards, high beam indicator, gen, temp, and dome light all worked) but one brake and directional (drivers rear). Drove it approx 25 miles and now no directionals, hazards at all (in dash or outside of car) Any idea where I can start? Checked flashers there good, have power to the brake switch. I have no power to the column. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have done hours of searching and see alot of the same symptoms but haven't found the answers. Thank you in advance for any help.

All of the other lights outside the vehicle work.

I encountered a similar problem years back that ended up being a bad turn signal switch.

Kevin, this is from my 69 experience, but 68s should be similar. The dash lights are fed from the taillight feeds and there is only one ground in the taillight harness. If that ground is not very good, then you get feedback through the bulbs to the dash lights. I would check all your grounds to make sure there is bare metal under them, clean the ring terminals and put a small star washer between the ring terminal and metal of chassis. Luck!

With a 68, the entire tail light housing grounds (or is supposed to) thru all 6 mounting nuts, but there is onlu one dash ground.

The dash grounds thru some metal straps running from the cluster to the high beam indicator socket to the top center screw that holds the cluster to the metal dash. Make sure that screw didn't fall out.

Also check the ground wires from the front turn signals to the headlight bracket.

Thanks for the replies. I removed, cleaned and regrounded. I have hazards, directionals, brake light. I cannot get the drivers rear brake light or directional to work. I tried a new T/S switch and that didn't cure it. I am going to keep chasing. If anyone has any other ideas I am open to suggestions.
