I'm having to use a couple of the oversized bushings for one of my door hinges. I need to drill out the existing hole. Anybody know the exact size drill bit for the job? 7/16"?

Thanks

If you don't already have one, buy a $2 gauge for checking the OD size of bolts, pipe, drill bits, etc. at a home store.
Or take the bushing with you and use the one they have hanging on the shelving for customer use. Very handy. :)

The oversized bushings are different than the standard. They're knurled (or serated) so I'm not sure how much to drill out of the hinge for a press fit. I'll figure it out. Thanks.

Drill for the size of the bushing body. The knurl (which will be slightly larger than the bushing body) is forced into the hole. This interference is what holds the bushing in place. If you drill for the size of the knurl, there will be nothing left to provide the interference fit to hold the bushing.

Any decent auto store, or hardware store can measure the bushing for you. It doesn't have to be a "critical tolerence" exact fit. But, if you do drill the hole slightly large/loose, a dab of JBweld will help hold the bushing in place. ......Jb

Every guy should have at least a cheapish set of verniers and calapers...like a timing light and vac guage.
It doesnt matter if they are not 99.999 % accruate, because most of what u measure is comparison...It is only when machining or measuring to diagrams or spec where measurements have been made by a different set of verniers super accuracy is required to match.
