What would the following be worth?

CE 427 shortblock. Has 4 bolt main "512" casting number block dated November 1968, windage tray, 6223 steel crank 10/10, 3/8 dimple rods, small dome pistons (probably 10.25 to 1 compression with closed chamber head). Rotating assembly all balanced. Also has timing chain cover, water pump and a Corvette oil pan.

Block is 0.040 over but has no ring groove. Was redone about 4000 miles ago. Has a hydraulic cam and lifters, but don't know any specs.

Being a 68 casting, likely worth more to Vette guys than F-Body. I would try Corvette Forum to see what they think.

A 512 4-bolt block usually lists around 2500 on e-bay, suppose with entire short block it would be worth somewhat more - kind of hard to tell.

I have a similar CE short block that was a warranty replacement on 68 Vette. I managed to buy the entire engine, with original 840 heads & tri-power, for $300 about 25 years back. If you sell yours, let us know what it goes for.

OK, I was not sure if any of the COPO or Yenko people that are missing their original engine might ever be looking for a replacement motor.

There are likely more folks recreating 427 Corvettes than COPO Camaros. Either application, your old CE is a great engine - hope it finds a good home.

The way things are going, I may just put it in my car and have fun with it. :D

The date is too early for a COPO replacement motor. The first batch of COPOs went to Yenko in December 68, so none were even sold yet when the engine was built. Like someone said, it would be great for a Vette, or Impala, for that matter.

Replacement motors sat around for a while. CE motors were not immediately put into cars. So if someone blew up an engine in July 69, this engine could have been installed with the vehicle still under warranty. I don't know exactly what COPO cars had for a warranty, but I believe most regular vehicles had a 5 year / 50,000 mile warranty on engines.

Or somebody would deck it and restamp it and make it the numbers match motor for their early COPO car,or create a bogus car by restamping it to match the numbers on an SS396 and calling it a COPO.Sounds like it could be worth a fortune to the right person.
