Hi all:

I am converting from drum to disc on my 68 RS. I am just about to put the rotors on.
I did a search for the torque specs for the spindle nut and found the recommendation to be 12 ft lbs. That sounds easy enough, except the lowest setting on my torque wrench is 20 ft lbs.
I asked a few guys who work on cars. One guy told me to put it snug, then back off 1/4 turn and put the cotter pin in. Another guy told me to tighten the nut by hand until there is a good amount of drag on the rotor, then put the pin in.
Any suggestions other than buying another torque wrench?

Edit: Title should read "Spindle Nut" not "Pinion Nut" It has been a long day!!!

I usually tighten the nut so it's snug and you feel resistance.Spin the rotor around and tighten a little more while it's turning,this seats the bearing and makes sure everything is lined up.Back off the nut till it's spins nice and smooth with no play or wobble and find the closest hole to fit the cotter pin in.Check for play in around 500 miles or so as often times you can tighten it to the next cotter pin hole as play can develope.then your good for the life of the car.
