OK, still cannot get the 327 idling worth a snot. New 2701 eps manifold, new 8361 with vac advance hooked into manifold.

Idles for crap, needs to be at 17 advance (or better 21) at idle and then its just eye watering gas fumes.

Oh yea, and when the advance kicks in at 1500 rpm its stays at 1500 rpm when I let off the gas.

Drop in gear at idle and goes from 1000 idle to 600 with no vac advance kicking in at all. I think I just pissed away $200 on the new dist.

ps the 8361 is set up stock with heavy springs and blue spacer.

I think I loose the vac and put it in heavy centrifical advance that kicks off at 1500 rpm? At 1500+ it runs fine.

Please help!

Maybe need a vac adv can that will kick in at a lower vac to bring in some more timing at idle? Anything causing bind in the throttle linkage to hold it open? Or maybe the choke fast idle is holding it there. What carb?

Vac. advance should be connected to ported vac. above the throttle plates, disconnect the advance and set your total timing, should be all in at 3000-3200 rpm, somewhere from 32 to 36 degrees. Then connect the vac. advance. Remember you are looking for what makes the engine happy. Make sure you don't have any carb. issues, such as improerly set floats, throttle blades open too far, vac. leaks etc.

I see another ported vs manifold vacuum debate coming on ; ).

use ported vac when you have the wrong adv can-

Current state of tuing.

No vac. 21 degree at idle. Runs great. Idles OK.

I take it I need to order the adjustable can? And put in the bushing that cuts out the avdvance the fastest (black?)

But with this much advance, getting ping. Can this be fixed with the blck advance limiter at 18?

Get a different (adjustable or lower activating adv can) and drop the initial timing down a bit while using manifold vacuum or pull some timing out of the distributor with different limiters or different weights and center plates can also limit advance. What are you getting for total timing? I'm guessing around 41?

Adjustable can coming.

Have 3 ports on the carb. What is the difference between the ported and direct manifold port? Is it the amount of vacuum?

one is a pcv/brakes(3/8) another has vacuum all the time but is smaller
the last only has vacuum after the throttle blades are opened a bit and is also smaller
must any performance motor will need the black bushing
