View Full Version : Pearl White (Diamond White Tri-Coat)
250motorsportz Sep 18th, 09, 11:35 AM Has anyone seen or done a pearl white paint job on their first gen camaro? Im getting my car re-painted and I really like how this colour looks on the new Caddys, Chevys, etc but wasnt sure if it would suit this car.
aka
Tri-coat (Diamond White)
67SS/RSCONV Sep 18th, 09, 11:39 AM I had a 68 SS I did with pearl white, no stripes with black rockers and tail. Looked awesome but a definite pain if you ever have to patch or repaint a fender etc. The pearl will change over time and it will never match no matter how careful you measure.
If I were to do it again I would choose the caddilac or infinity pearl, base/clear.
250motorsportz Sep 18th, 09, 11:48 AM Yes, my brother has a Cadillac in diamond white, and thats the exact colour I was looking at doing. Do you have any pics?
250motorsportz Sep 18th, 09, 11:48 AM Also, if anyone is able to photo shop this for me, that would be great

67SS/RSCONV Sep 18th, 09, 11:51 AM If I do they will be in a 20 year old box. I painted it a bright white (Dupont Centari) and put the silver pearl in the clear coat. Todays paint technology(and colors) makes it a lot easier.
250motorsportz Sep 18th, 09, 11:57 AM Oh ok lol. Hopefully someone else will tune in with pics or some photoshop help. This is a very hard decision!
250motorsportz Sep 19th, 09, 12:02 PM Anyone??
AlexFolino Sep 19th, 09, 03:22 PM At the chevy dealer i work at we have a Malibu in that color and ill tell you its a gorgeous gorgeous color especially in the sun. However make sure whoever paints it does a proper job because ive seen that color sprayed on a Suburban and it turned out relatively blochy with the pearl.
Pro-Street69Camaro468 Sep 20th, 09, 08:54 AM Pearl white is a nice color but my personal opinion will grow old and you may lose interest in it.It is kind of like the flip flop in my mind just not politicly correct for a first gen.
I think I would go with bright white like Corvette white.Just my $.02.
I painted a 67 Duce pearl white back in the day looked cool for a while but the owner lost interest and sold it,not sure if it was because of the paint.
Eleanor's Nemesis Sep 20th, 09, 12:56 PM There is a guy that I see at a local dragstrip with a tubbed 68 camaro that is pearl white with no stripes or other colors or decals, looks great imo. Also saw a '65ish chevy truck at the track last night (tubbed drag only vehicle) in pearl white that looked great.
I will look at some archived pics from the track to see if I can find a pic of the camaro for ya-
rs1968ss Sep 20th, 09, 03:02 PM I love my pearl white Camaro! It is a custom pearl however.
Lobstah Sep 21st, 09, 03:19 AM My STS is Pearl White...just had the car repainted as part of the repair for hail damage.
It's beautiful on the STS, no question, and if you like the color you should go with it.
Your car, your color :)...sorta like I've told my son on occasion..."My house, my rules"
:)

Mark C Sep 21st, 09, 09:25 AM You do know how expensive that stuff is don't you? Somewhere around 250 a quart for both the base and pearl midcoat layers. Add whatever the clear costs on top of that. On toop of that most body shops really have no desire to try and match it if it gets damaged. My parents have a 2003 DHS in pearl white, and I have a 97 STS in it, both are a major pain to get touched up, and even then it doesn't look the same. You practically have to paint the whole car over again.
69 z11 Sep 21st, 09, 12:14 PM In high school (1974) my 69 Z28 was painted pearl white with red murano(sp?) and it looked pretty amazing, a real eye catcher. Make sure you want it, it makes a pretty strong statement. I wish I had a picture of it, but have never found one.
BTW, anyone in the Denver area with info on my old Z28, please pm me! Was pearl white, blackstripes, with white houndstooth and had "paint by Jack, mouse by Larry" on the back end.
