: RS Headlight doors

I recently replaced the vacuum headlight door actuators on my 69 SS-RS. The passenger-side door doesn't fit well into the opening. It is not quite closed enough, and it seems to be at the extreme extension of the actuator. I don't see anything else stopping it. Is there a way to adjust the position of the headlight door? Thanks!

Are they aftermarket doors? Believe it or not, they dont fit properly.. You have to slot the mounting holes on the core support, trim the edges of the mounting brackets for better positioning, shim the mounting brackets to position depth properly, then bend and twist the doors to fine tune them.. I had hell with mine..

Nice car. No they are the originals, but they used to fit better before the new vacuum actuators.

These are electric but with a stock GM grill and yes a little shimming and tweaking will help.

If I understand correctly, this happened after replacing the actuators only ?

On a '68 (I imagine '69 is the same) there's a slight bit of adjustment at the rear actuator support....the holes in the support bracket are oblong. Try loosening the 2 rear clamp bolts and see if you can pull the actuator back.

If that don't work, try disconnecting the actuator from either end and see if the door will close completely ....this will help isolate the problem.

Thanks for the advice. I don't think there's any adjustment there, but if nothing else works I'll have to take the shields back off and see what I can find.
