Everything went on great, but because of the 2" drop spindles the tires are now deep into the wheel well and the car is not drivable. I have 17" wheels with low profile tires.

Does anyone know of a replacement spindle that will fit these brakes or have a suggestion on how to raise the car back up?

Or - is it better to start from scratch with a different kit. Problem is I have not located a kit that does not come with the 2" drop spindle.

I'd avoid drop spindles. If you want to lower the car, lower it with shorter springs.

The are tons of big brake kits that work with stock spindles. If you are retaining your rear drums, make sure the front brakes you choose are a good match.

I'd try and return that kit if I were you. It looks like the spindle is specifically made for those calipers. I also don't like the word "cast" when referring to spindles.

Here are just a few places to look for bigger brake kits to fit your stock spindles. Just beware that the C5/6 based stuff is not a good match with stock rear drums, but this should get you started.

Most drop spindles use the "newer" style rotors.

If it's the drop that makes it too low and undrivable... maybe some bigblock springs would raise it enough ? (if not already a bigblock)

Because of my tire/wheel combination I cannot lower the vehicle. I already have big block springs.

Tons of us folks are running 2" drop spindles on 1st Gen Camaros with great success. I don't see how you could be having a problem unless you already have drop springs also, then it would be too low. I suspect your springs are lowered.

I just replaced the springs with stock height big block springs so I know that they are stock height.

I used QA1 Adjustables in the front of the 67 Firebird I'm working on. They cost around $300 from Jegs/Summit. I can lower and raise the car to what ever I want using a spanner wrench they sell.

The ones I used were Jegs - Economy Pro Coil 450# spring 0122GME1450-1 (cost $349 in 2007) . I used the shim kit too to allow easier rotation of adjustement

Do you happen to know what backspacing your rims have? That kit says max 4" but I assume that's so a 15" rim will clear the tie rod. Have you noticed how close the steering arm is to the rim? Where are you rubbing, inside or out? If inside you may be able to run a spacer if they make them for a front hub depending on your overall tire width.

If you're shopping solely on ebay, I see what you mean with the 12" kits only coming with drop spindles. You may have to look elsewhere for a standard height spindle and 12" kit.

For comparison, here's fitment with standard height spindles and 11" rotor with 17x8" rim with 4.75" backspacing, 235/45 tire, and Eibach 1" lower sbc springs. No rubbing.

late model Vette or Camaro brakes go onto the stock disc or drum spindles using the stock drum hub and easily fabricated caliper brackets...
when i did my Nova, i had just over $500 in the C4 Corvette 12" front brakes, including the master cylinder (manual brake 77 Chevelle), Wilwood adjustable proportioning valve and Russel braided stainless steel flex lines. the bigger 13" Vette brake parts cost about the same, but i went with the 12" setup to assure that the 16" IROC wheels i had at the time would fit.

I just replaced the springs with stock height big block springs so I know that they are stock height.


Maybe they sent you the wrong springs?
