Can any of you guys who have 2" dropped front ends get me a measurment....from the ground to your front fender lip.

http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk157/daytonayellaz/007.jpg

Here is why...I just sold my 17x7 wheels there are leaving tomorrow. Im going to a 17x8 w/ 4.5 back space. I dont have the tires yet and need to get some SOON or my car will be sitting on jack stands:( My car still has the stock subframe under it with a LS1 brake upgrade.

I have a second subframe powdercoated and With SPC upper and lower arms, tall ball joints and tie rod ends, hotchkiss 2" drop springs, Lee 670 gear box etc etc. Im waiting till winter to drop my old sub and install the new one. I want to drive my car until then though. So I need to get the right size tires now for when the new sub goes in. Trying to figure out what size to buy. Am I thinking right here by asking this question??

I think you should have said on 67/68's due to the 69's wheel well design.

Anywho....with 205/65/15's

Yes, you are right Doug. I should have said 67/68, mine is a 67. I probably should have also noted that I have a small block car/SB Hotchkis springs. Great pic!, mine was from my cell phone last night and not so good. That was exactly what Im looking for and thank you!

Anyone else want to ad your measurments and tire sizes please.... Can I also get from the ground to the top of your tire while were at it please, Doug is yours 24.5 "? hard to tell with the shadow efect.

Thank you for taking the time to reply! I do have a 67 as Doug has pointed out, so I think the numbers are probably different for me.

26 inches on my 68. I got GW stage-3 suspension package (http://www.globalwest.net/1967-69_Camaro-Firebird_Stage_three_suspension_package.htm) (2" drop in front, 1.5" drop in rear). I am running 18 inch Foose Legends all the way around with Nitto 225/45 up front and 275/40 on the rear. (http://www.camaros.net/forums/showpost.php?p=1279046&postcount=29)

With 17" wheels, you'll have to pick your battle. too much BS you'll rub the subframe. too little BS you'll rub the fender. i measure 24" with 17" X 245 X40 up front with hotchkis 2" drop up, but its a 69 with 4.75 BS w/TTII's. i had to lengthen the steering stops on the lower "a" arms to keep them from rubbing at the end of steering travel. also, i run a disk brake that does extend the wheel outward at least 1/4" neting a 4.5" BS. 67/68's fender wells are rounded and taller and can take more outer height. i dont think 4.5BS will be a problem for you since you are on a 67/68 camaro. Maybe others with similar setups can be of more help, but i think 67/68's are more forgiving to smaller BS than 69's.

I apreciate your input again Joe, Thanks! This makes me feel a lot better. As you already know, the wheels I went to get had a 5" BS and when I got there to pick them up..all they had was 4.5 BS, which I took. I called them back this morning and told them I wanted the 5"BS and they said mid november before I could get them.

So.... I was just thinking before getting on here that I was either going to wait 2 months with my car on jack stands or get 17x7 with 4" BS, but I really had my heart set on 8" wheels. So Im going to try the ones I have.... Thanks again! I will let everyone know how these worked.

Remember...too much BS is an easy fix by slapping on a $7 spacer. Too little BS is typically the end of the road. Most places have a policy that once you mount the tires on the wheels, you own the wheels - regardless.

the 7" X 4.0 BS places the outer edge of the wheel 3.0" out from the hub.
the 8" X 4.5 BS places the outer edge of the wheel 3.5" out from the hub.
the 8" X 5.5 BS places the outer edge of the wheel 2.5" out from the hub.

Not alot of difference from your 7" wheels if your concerned about outer fender rub. Your tire choice will be as significant as the wheel you choose. with your exisiting wheels and a flat edge, you can get a good idea what you can get away with.

Also, the 8X 5.0 BS places the outer edge of the wheel 3.0" out from the hub: exactly the same distance as your 7.0" wheels at 4.0 BS.

How about you Matt....what is the BS on your front wheels? Does the 17 vs 18 make a difference on BS ?

zlek131

My fronts are 18x7 with 4.25 BS. I wouldn't think BS would be different between 17 and 18 inch wheels as it's the wheel's width that goes hand-in-hand with BS, not how tall the wheel is. Plus in most cases, smaller wheels will get higher profile tires while bigger wheels will get lower profile tires which ~somewhat~ tends to equal things out between the two setups.

Also, the 8X 5.0 BS places the outer edge of the wheel 3.0" out from the hub: exactly the same distance as your 7.0" wheels at 4.0 BS.

OK....after some careful measuring and bouncing on the car and many other checks, Im going to go with the 17x8 w/ 5" BS. As you noted above it places the wheel in the same position on the outer edge as my 17x7 w/ 4" BS which is all the further I really want to be out. It puts me in an inch further, but looks like it will be fine. I see no problems with tie rod ends, ball joints, close on tie rods but will clear all this just fine with no spacers. The only problem I may run into is a rub on trying to turn at full lock, which if so I guess I will just have to try not to turn so sharp....unless anyone knows a fix for this? Thanks again John, Matt, Doug and everyone else who has been kind enough to help out.

Extend the steering stops on the lower "A" arms. had to do it to mine by welding a 9/16 nut and short bolt for some adjustment.
