ok guys i need some info on the front springs of a 67 camaro big block 402.past weekend i installed a set of upper & lower a-arms & a set of big block springs.i know the springs came out of a 69 big block .they are 17 inches long.my problem is this dang car sits up like a 4-wheel drive. i have 17x8 on rear & 17x7 on front.i have put these springs in 5 times.i have cut about 1 whole ring off of spring.i now have car sitting the way i want it .my ? is why did i have a problem with car sitting so high.i know your first ? is going to be did i have the springs seated in the spring pocket & yes i did.the reason i know this is there is a small hole at top next to where the shock came threw. i put a pin in & twisted spring until it touched pin.could the tubular a-arms make it sit so high & also i loosened all a-arm bolts & nuts up before i cut springs .i thought maybe this was holding car up,but it wasn't.car has been sitting since Sunday i have jumped up & down on front end shook it & car still sitting the way i want it to.I'm scared to death that its going to bottom out once car settles with new motor in it.this was a small block car i converted to big block.i do have another set of springs ,but i sure don't want to put those bad boys in.I'm wore plum out fooling with these springs.every one else tells me i shouldn't have had to cut springs but this car would have caught me at the waist & I'm 6 ft 4 in tall.its sitting at 27&3/4 inches at the center of wheel opening now.front is sitting about 3/4 inch higher than front.rear at center is 27 inches to floor.has this happened to any one else.any opinions would be greatly appreciated.thanks for all of your help in putting this car together

We really can't help you until the engine, transmission, and all accessories are in the car. This also includes all of the body panels etc. Then you have to have your control arms loose, until all of the weight is on all four wheels. Then you can tighten the control arms. I think you just made a pair of springs for a go cart. Never put the wagon before the horse.

i do have all the parts on the car it has the 402 big block sitting in it has the m-20 4-speed in it all the fenders on it also the doors are on it . has the 10 bolt possi in it sitting on the ground on all fours & no they sure wasn't go-cart springs installed on the car. i think i should know the difference as many times as they have been in & out.
& all the bolts in the a-arms was loose.i don't have hood or interior in car but that shouldn't make car sit 18 inches high.but i appreciate your answer .I'm not trying to get the cart in front of horse i know horse has to be in front of cart was wondering why car sit so high.ive built 10 67-69 camaros in past but never a big block they were all small block & never one with tubular a-arms .

I'm scared to death that its going to bottom out once car settles with new motor in it.

Sorry, the way you said it, it didn't sound like the car was together.

You may want to try it with your shocks disconnected. I had a pair of KYB gas-a-just shocks that were holding my car up. I still have the shocks if anyone want's me to prove it to them.

17" seems a little long for front springs, I think. Checkout the first 2 threads below regarding spring height/length and the third one has some other ideas you may want to try regarding making sure they are not bound and indeed seated correctly. When I get home, I'll measure my old ones that I swapped for a new set of lowering ones from GW. I know the new ones were about 1 or 1.5 inches lower then the old ones when looking at them side by side.

I had a chance to measure the old springs. My old ones are 16 inches. Below is a pic of the old and the new side by side. Clearly the new ones are 1.5 or 2 inches shorter. Also here is a pic of my front suspension before and after. I used to have a huge 4x4 gash between my front tire and fender lip. That is no longer the case. Of course keep in mind I used to run 15 inch wheels versus 18 inch now. Anyways, I really do think your spring is too long.

man that's one nice 68. my 67 is sitting about the same as it is.i appreciate all the answers.i was worried that after car sits awhile it will go down & sit to low.i have 2 sets of these springs & they both are 17 inches i cut the one set & i looked at the car before i took them out.the guy i got these from his car sit great & it was a big block.it was a 69 instead of a 67.i was concerned that i may have took to much off springs, because every one i talk to says i shouldn't have had to cut them because a big block needs the heavier spring.thanks again guys

Glad to help. The springs have settled a " very little". Here is a recent pic with 1000 miles on the car after the suspension rebuild.
