CamaroNOTcamero Mar 4th, 02, 05:47 PM nah personally i like solids, would you like me to dyno them in your combo.
I figures since everyone wants isky's and crowers dynoed everyonce in a while, we'll throw this one in too.
any suggestions on a good ultradyne solid?
BigRed-L72 Mar 5th, 02, 04:10 AM Just for comparisons sake if you don`t mind. You know, for educational purposes.
I`d be interested in what that program shows. thanks

BigRed-L72 Mar 5th, 02, 08:44 AM Eric they do have a web site, I don`t know how to post it here. I guess I should learn how. oh well... try www.ultradyne.com (http://www.ultradyne.com)

CamaroNOTcamero Mar 5th, 02, 10:27 AM ok i'll give em a shot tonight.
BigRed-L72 Mar 5th, 02, 04:59 PM Just wondering...Is my order up yet?? http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif
CamaroNOTcamero Mar 5th, 02, 05:30 PM with my engine, the 1st uldradyne hydra makes:
458HP at 6500rpms
423TQ at 5000rpms/ 317TQ at 2000rpms
2nd one makes:
458HP at 6500rpms
413TQ at 5000rpms/ 288TQ at 2000rpms (no good)
Now with the comp 282S solid i'm making:
460HP at 6000rpms
452TQ at 4500rpms/ 370TQ at 2000rpms ( http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif)
My combo is:
Trick Flow 23 degree heads
355ci
10.3:1 compression
650CFM
small tube headers free flowing exhaust
Single plane intake (Vic. JR)
Eric68 Mar 6th, 02, 07:18 AM I'd like to see someone go from the Comp 282s to the Ultradyne combo (236* @ .050 with Rhoads lifters) Big Red's been talking about. I'd be curious to see how the solid cam compares with the Ultradyne setup in the 1/4 mile. The key though would be NOT changing a thing except the cam and correcting for weather, altitude, etc so we would get an apples to apples comparison.
It would settle an age old debate http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif

BigRed-L72 Mar 6th, 02, 02:21 PM Are those PEAK #`s ?
I ask because it seem odd that the ultradyne cams peak 500 rpms higher on both torque and hp.
6500 rpm ultradyne hyd vs
6000 rpm comp solid
5000 rpm ultradyne hyd vs
4500 comp solid
I`m not a PEAK #`s guy anyway, but doesn`t that program show the #`s from say 2000 up to whatever,??? that would be a more accurate way to determine how a motor will run in a vehicle.
The 239 @ 050 with the rhoads would be interesting.
ERIC SOME of the proof is in the performance right? dyno`s are cool but how do you argue with the signature below http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif

CamaroNOTcamero Mar 6th, 02, 02:39 PM yeah it shows it in 500rpm progressive stages 2000-10000rpms.
Those are peak powers, the ultradynes are peaking higher becuase of the added duration.
The solid was beating it every step of the way on torque.
joesmith69 Mar 6th, 02, 05:14 PM I agree a computer program will only take you so far. Track times and even more so trap speeds prove what a part is worth. Big Red's results speak for themselves. As do those of Eric68. I don't think you can go wrong with either brand, solid, hydra, roller...I think the power is all in the heads personally.

BigRed-L72 Mar 7th, 02, 06:01 AM Can somebody run the #`s again?
Something doesn`t seem right.
According to what Camaronot says, his combo(355) is almost spot on what Eric68`s (383) is, both using the same parts.??(relatively)
Joesmith69.... I know you have run a few program`s..do those #`s look right?
I did a search and most 355`s dyno runs show somewhat less in the power range.
I`d take that 383 ANYDAY over that 355!!!

joesmith69 Mar 7th, 02, 12:59 PM BigRed - What I have found with Desktop Dyno, and generally seen in real world dyno testing is this: A 355 and 383 with exact same top end components(heads, cam, intake, carb, headers) will make VERY similar peak HP #'s. The 383 will generally make about 25-35 more lb-ft of torque. The 383's peak #'s tend to occur about 500 rpm sooner than the 355. The average torque will be about 25 lb-ft higher. The average HP will also be higher, although the peak numbers don't always show such.
CnC's numbers look right to me.

How do I argue?
1. Heads - I'm running TFS 23* heads, your running the better Twisted Wedge
2. I ran my 11.98s with 15 of 16 valve springs broken (the dampeners were all broke) ouch!
3. Your running a 406, I'm running a 383.
4. The cam - duration is huge on that 406 engine like 244 is it? I'm running a mere (and very streetable) 230 @ .050.
5. Yes my car is lighter, but not by much with my big butt in it http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif
6 AND FINALLY - just how do you get that Camaro to the track? HMMMMMM? a trailer maybe ???? Hmmmmmmm ??? LOL
We're not exactly comparing apples to apples here, but I'd still be willing to line 'em up . . . http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif same goes for that big block beast of yours http://www.camaros.net/forum/cool.gif Maybe we'll have to drive 'em and meet halfway between FL and MI - like Virginia or something. LOL
BigRed-L72 Mar 7th, 02, 03:18 PM Sorry to burst you bubble but...
The car has Dart Pro 1`s (200cc)
You`ll find out that those broken dampers are NOT holding your car back, you`ll see.
The duration is 239 @ 050 (trim 5-8 degrees off for the Rhoads lifters)
This car WITHOUT driver is 3550 lbs
Add 220+- LBS for driver I`m pretty sure this rig weighs at least 300 LBS more than yours maybe more...
The car IS a DAILY driver and I mean DRIVEN every single day.
The car was run 2 weeks ago not tuned up in a year never had the valve covers off in fact I set them on the motor stand when i put the engine together a couple years ago and have never touched them or even lifted the valve covers off!!!
The result is in the signature..
And LOL...It has never been on a trailer It`s Driven to the track and back, but thanks for the compliment http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif
Boy oh boy, you`re getting frisky there eric,
you need to get to the track ASAP, I can tell that, cabin fever is setting in...(heeeereee`s johnnnnnnnnyy)
I can`t believe you`re going to pick on a Big Fat car like BigRed tsk tsk.. http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif
But you might have me covered there, I ran about a month ago I couldn`t hook up at all
Ran 11.92@ 116.0 mph with a 1.92 60 ft, would be fun though.

68rs406 Mar 7th, 02, 10:16 PM big red and eric, i know how you can decide this argument, just let me know when you run 'em http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif , and also , id think those pro 1's have an advantage over either of those trick flows, IMO.
Eric68 Mar 8th, 02, 01:54 AM OK, OK, OK we'll see how they run this spring. I guess cabin fever IS getting to me. I know that because I find myself frequently going out in the garage and fondling my engine, checking pressure in my race tires, thinking about starting my 383 on the engine stand . . . it's getting bad around here . . .
