: general return policies
okiemark Sep 23rd, 09, 08:30 AM I have had a set of front disc breaks sitting in my garage for about a year and a half. It dawned on me this morning that, I'm pretty sure, will fit only on 14 or 15 in. wheels. I've long since desired more modern and better handling tires. I'm not even sure where I got them from. Does RICK'S have a really big catalog like Classic Industries? I think that's where I may have gotten them. What is the return policy for these big companies, in general? thanx
SPARKY69 Sep 23rd, 09, 08:36 AM must have receipt and not longer than 90 days old and boxes must be in mint condition..how much do you want for that stuff??some places will just give you credit ,you will have to call and find out!!do you still have the reciept and what name is on the boxes??which kit did you buy??you can still use that stuff with bigger wheels and tires but some people prefer to go to the big brake kits..i run 17 inch wheels with stock disc brake set up!!she's just a driver, its not a canyon carver!!

Really Sparky? I thought you were still running moonshine through the hills of N.C.! I opened the box and looked at the stuff, put everything back in the box. I'll look in there today for a reciept. I think it may be taped to the box.
rj68RS Sep 23rd, 09, 09:06 AM 2x what Bill said.
90 days for a full refund is pretty standard but that said, most companies will work with you especially if you have spent quite a bit with them or if you offer up to accept a "store credit" or other merchandise in exchange. After more than a year expect to pay a 15-20% restocking fee which is just another way to recover the profit lost on the return. If the customer service person you speak with isn't willing to accept the return, ask politely for the manager as they most often have the power to approve out of policy returns.
parkbrau Sep 23rd, 09, 09:22 AM Ricks catalog isnt as big as classics because 1st gen is all they do. Classics does all the years. 'cept 09.
Put them on sale in the classifieds if you the company wont deal with you.

okiemark Sep 23rd, 09, 11:11 AM yeah, I got the stuff from Ricks and they won't give me store credit or let me return. Here's what I have. I'm still not sure what tires I will be running in front. Maybe you guys could tell me what my limit is based on this kit. If I have to sell this kit, I may just bite the bullett and go disc brakes all around. Is that necessary for a driver?

SPARKY69 Sep 23rd, 09, 11:15 AM thats a stock front brake kit to replace your front drums!! looks like a manual disc kit..i dont see or hear them mention a booster in the kit at all???..for a everyday driver set up thats perfect..how big a wheel and tire combo are you thinking of running??..i would grab a booster to make it power brakes unless you want man.disc brakes??..ive got a 67 chevlle ss 396 with man. disc brakes on the front and drums in the rear..no problem stopping the monster!! she's a weapon for though!!!!
rj68RS Sep 23rd, 09, 11:29 AM I agree on manual discs. My 4-wheel Wilwoods discs are manual and on a car this light it's not a problem at all. I also installed a Wilwood master cylinder that had a larger bore and thus pushes more fluid as my master was shot.
okiemark Sep 23rd, 09, 11:31 AM Bill, a guy gave me a booster the other day (the guy that did my motor). It's black and very large, that's all I know about it. (he also gave me a Ron Davis Radiator... good guy)
is that all it would take to make it non-manual front disc breaks? I'm not sure what size of tire I'm gonna run. I mentioned that earlier, you must already be hopped up on the 'shine! I'm already spending way, way too much $$ on this car. At this point, if I can get it to stop really well without safety being an issue, and it not hindering re-sell value in the future, I'm happy.
SPARKY69 Sep 23rd, 09, 11:36 AM Mark, if you get a booster for that kit your gonna have to change that master..its different..i think!!!..you might want to check with ricks for part no's for sure!! havent got into da shine yet!! i cant remember where i laid the jug down!!..ask him what that booster came off of??

It's not that those will "only" fit 15" wheels....the 11" rotors will "allow" you to still run 15" wheels. I'm running four wheel 11" rotors on 17" rims and it will STOP....and stop STRAIGHT. With the old manual drums, I had to call the Psychic Hotline to be set up for my stops and no matter how many lanes were on the road it wanted to go across all of them.
What really stinks is that for less than what you paid for that kit back then, today you could get a full power kit. We all go through the same thing though.....

actually, the price is still the same.

An all new full power front kit from Matt's is $475. It's the same one Rick's sells just cheaper.

The point was made in order to sympathize with you as we all buy stuff for these cars and then wind up having either the warranty run out or have something better come out before we even get a chance to use what we bought.
Now, you probably still did better buying the brakes and never using them than you would have if you'd invested the $525 eighteen months ago.:D
1stGenLvr Sep 23rd, 09, 10:07 PM That exact kit is sold by smaller shops on Ebay for $300
okiemark Sep 24th, 09, 09:09 AM oh well, I guess I'll keep them in the box and use them as an end table, put a lamp on them. Then on the other side of my recliner I could put my headers still in the box because they don't leave enough clearance for the spark plugs. All I need now is the exhaust system to get here, I'll use that big box as a coffee table.

okiemark Sep 24th, 09, 09:32 AM yeah, I may just start my own line of designer furniture. I'll call it the "First-Gen" look.

Mark - I'm not sure but why not use them? some 14" wheels will work on these, all 15's I know of and anything bigger- 16,17" and they work pretty good-I have even upgraded to semi metallics say for 80 z28- pads fit the same but semi's can take more heat. unless your going to 16-17" wheels and want 12 or 13" rotors but the OE system you have works good on the street

14' Rally wheels cleared the OEM set up. Some of the import kits that this vendor has dropped shipped may not clear as they don't bend the brackets correctly or as precisely as GM did.
Probably the best overall disc brake system on any OEM car (69 Camaro, 69-72 Chevelle).
