I did a search here. I did a google search. I went to Mortec. Is there any way to tell what power steering unit I have. It's definately not stock. But I want to know if the 3rd gen swap everybody raves about would be worthwhile for me. I'm not unhappy with my steering, but if It can be better for minimal cash I'm interested.

Post some pics of it. That would help. Does the box have any casting numbers?

Unfortunately, there seems to be the remnants of a sticker that used to be on the side cover in your picture. That sticker would have had two letters of the alphabet that might have given a hint as to what gear it was.

The casting numbers on the housing and side cover are of no value in determining the gear vintage.

If you can, take a look on the aluminum cover on the front of the gear. There just might be a sticker or an ink stamp with two letters. They often put the alpha codes in both places.
