I have not had a chance to check the bolts on my rear suspention to see if something is loose. Can the inside of a shock be broken and still work? Could there be a loose or rattleing sound inside only when I go over a big bump? If I push down the rear of the car it is stiff but I think that is my springs. Thanks. Brian.

Shocks dont often rattle when they break. The most common way they fail is by losing their pressure control. With a shock disconnected, collapse the shock by hand, is there resistance? Does it rebound?
