: Throttle assemblies
CamaroNOTcamero Jul 26th, 03, 07:00 PM Has anyone here converted a throttle rod assembly to a cable assembly?
What cable and bracket did you use?
How'd you set it up to the stock pedal?
Thanks!
I'm looking into this for the future, i do NOT want to use a throttle rod, for safety reasons, if i get into an accident on or off the track, i dont want to be speared by a throttle rod.
My 6 cylinder has a throttle rod at the moment, didnt come from the factory with a cable.
chicane67 Jul 26th, 03, 07:08 PM The Lokar (http://www.lokar.com/) stuff is really nice. I have used a few of their products with good results.
The mechanical pivot on the fire wall goes to the pedal, then the cable is mounted on the firewall and run to the carb. I am pretty sure that the site has a picture on it.
Just a thought....
travis Jul 26th, 03, 07:30 PM Personally, I prefer the adjustability and dependability of a throttle rod assembly. Besides, I think if you ever wrecked bad enough to be impaled by a throttle rod, the steering column or something else would get you first.
DjD Jul 27th, 03, 04:40 AM Your 6 should have a cable throttle assembly, how it was converted to solid linkage will effect how you change it back to cable. I doubt you really have to worry about being speared by a linkage rod!!
davidpozzi Jul 27th, 03, 07:53 AM I think the cable linkage for 6 cyl first came out in 69.
There is a dimple on the firewall just under the windshield wiper motor that the cable plugs into. There is a ground strap screw hole right next to the dimple and that is used to hold the cable jacket.
The ground strap goes from firewall to the valve cover.
My 67 does not have the dimple but I have a 68 and 69 that do.

MarkM Jul 27th, 03, 08:33 AM My car was originally an I-6, with throttle rod. I converted it to cable using the suggested Lokar stuff. It hooked right up to my original gas pedal. I also use a Spectre (Summit makes one too) chrome adjustible throttle/kickdown bracket. Worked well when I had a Th350, and works fine with my 700R-4 also.
CamaroNOTcamero Jul 27th, 03, 02:20 PM dennis,
It was never converted from a cable to a rod, IMO no body is going to take the time to convert a bone stock 6 cylinder car to a throttle rod, and leave everything else alone.
I think i'm going to convert it to a lokar pedal assembly and cable, with a CSI throttle mount, but i'm uncertain still.
I saw a 67' nova with the lokar pedal and CSI bracket, and i liked how it was done.
David,
Thanks, i dont think mine will have the dimple, but i'll take a peak anyways.
NHRA1877 Jul 27th, 03, 03:42 PM My ca when i bought it was pure stock, it was a 6cyl and had a cable, when i did the big block i changed it to a throttle rod. So the 68`s had to have come with a cable.
CamaroNOTcamero Jul 27th, 03, 04:21 PM You guys might be right, i'm getting out of hand with these crazy ideas of using a CSI throttle bracket.
Forgetaboutit, i'm going to make a throttle rod, and use some rod ends on it.
I'll make up something for the springs.
