arocars Sep 28th, 09, 02:47 PM Hi Tom.
Hooker Headers are a good brand and been around forever. They'll bolt to most non-vortec, Chevy heads without issue. I've always had good luck with the dual exhaust system from Summit. The one that exits under the rear bumper. Its inexpensive, fits well, and is made by Hooker as well. There's been a lot on this site re the best muffler. Turbo mufflers give the muscle car tone you normally hear. The price and quality run the gammet from cheap to expensive. I'd suggest you avoid glasspacks/cherry bombs, because they will get you into trouble with the police.
BangShiftChad Sep 28th, 09, 03:17 PM I've used Hooker headers for years, and would recommend you upgrade to the Super Competitions if you are going to be running a 383 later. They are available with a slightly larger primary pipe, and also are a little nicer fitting. 2 1/2 exhaust systems from Flowmaster, Summit, and Dynomax all seem good in my experience. For mufflers, I have recently been using a lot of Cherry Bombs (they have several types) and like the quality. Unless you are making well in excess of 500 hp, the 2 1/2 inch exhaust will be plenty for you. Have fun!

123 Sep 29th, 09, 04:28 AM thanks guys for the input i will be going with doug' s, now what about an exhaust i was lookin at the 2 1/2" flowmasters kit, or is the magnaflow kit with the x pipe a better system, also will i have to buy additional 2 1/2" collectors to install these systems i see with doug s headers they come with 3" collectors
thanks tom
ProdigyCustoms Sep 29th, 09, 06:11 AM For header, both the Hooker and Dougs will be great in 1 3/4" primaries. You will need 3" to 2 1/2" reducers with your Dougs headers.
For exhaust, I sell Flowmaster and Magnaflow, bt prepfer the Magnaflow. The 2 1/2" Magnaflow will handle 500HP easy and sounds great. Nice firm mellow tone at idle and cruise, loud at WOT. We sell it for $500 including shipping and that is a hard deal to beat for a fully stainless, X pipe system.
Here is a sound clip of the 2 1/2" system on a 500HP l76 (LSX motor) we did just yesterday
