Hello guys,
I posted a while back about a project Camaro I am getting started on again. And we were discussing drivetrain numbers and my firewall plate numbers. I went back to find that thread but it appears it's gone.

I have a '67 RS/SS 396, 325hp, Turbo 400, and the question is about the column shifter. The column indicator shows PRND21 and there are no signs of a floor shifter ever being present in the car.

I have finally gotten around to checking the engine block numbers for a clue, and here they are:
TO524MY 7N229521

Can someone direct me to were i can decode this number and is this the correct block for the car?

Thanks,
Buzz

MY is the correct code for a 1967 Camaro 396/325 hp engine used with the auto trans.

Does the 7N229521 match the last part of your VIN? If so, you may have the correct engine if it was not restamped.

What is the information on the cowl tag of your car? There should be a 4N on it somewhere toward the bottom left side.

Buzz,
The old thread is http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?p=1249133

If no console was ordered, the TH400 would be column shift and wouldn't have a code on the tag. Any other 396 trans would have been floor shift.

Not *that* unusual to be column shift, but certainly not common.

Thank you Kurt, for taking time to reply! That put's my mind to rest. So the console not being ordered explains the missing trans code on the tag.

That makes sense because there's not one option inside the car. Other than this being an RS/SS 396 TH400, the only other option that I know of is manual disc brakes. That is - unless that was part of the big block option.

I am the third owner and knew of the car before purchasing it privately from the second owner. I will check the trans number before proceeding to restore the car - but I'm sure it will also match.

The car came with a spread-bore Holley, Mallory distributor, headers and traction bars. I got the original exhaust manifolds with the purchase of the car, but the carb and the distributor were lost. I will have to find some date-code correct replacements and a pair of differential spring plates.

Thanks again,
Buzz

Discs would be optional.
Do you have the 5459467 master cylinder without bleeders, stamped AD?

Kurt,

I apologize for not immeadiately replying. I got some help today to dig my parts out of the loft. I did see the master cylinder which reminded me you asked about the code. I will try to read it soon. At the time I was just happy to see all the parts being present. I even discovered some parts I had purchased years ago that I forgot I had!

Thanks,
Buzz
