: need help on a 1968 Z/28 RS
solteroboss Sep 30th, 09, 04:29 PM I found last weekend in the back of wood house in the mountains here PR what its look like a 1968 Z/28 RS and I need some advice to how can I authenticate this car. Here are what I got:
Trim tag:
06C
711
PB
ZZ
1-It got factory gauges on the console and a 6,000 red line tachometer.
2-12 bolt rear end with the shocks in cross position
3- intake manifold endind in 610
4- Power brakes with big front calipers
5- power steering
6- the engine has the numbers CE 989492 on the front pad
7- Flat hood with white dual stripes
8- rear spoiler
9- Rallysport badges on the back of the front fenders and Z/28 emblems on the front of the fenders
10- The rally sport system is working fine
11- the exterior is Green metallic with white stripes and the interior is like a light cream color
The car have being park since 1985 with only 41,000 miles and it is in excellent condition. The owner state that he bougth this car back in 1971 and that he is the second owner and it only being painted one time and that everything is original on the car except the engine that was change in warranty by the first owner.
I talk to several people on that little town and everybody knows the car and the owners.
No documentation except the registration and tittle.
Can someone tell me what other things I can look to find is this is a real Z/28?
Thanks.
rich pern Sep 30th, 09, 04:53 PM Try looking in the glove box for the tire pressure sticker and tell us what it says. That may help if it is the original one.
Other than that (and even with that), with a CE engine, it will be hard to prove a Z.

3forme Sep 30th, 09, 05:10 PM Sounds very possible but proving it like Rich said, will be tough. The intake is a good sign and is there a clock inside the tach?
wagonman Sep 30th, 09, 06:01 PM original muncie car?
4 leafs?
rear bumper gaurds?
do you have pictures of all parts previously mentioned?
Everett#2390 Sep 30th, 09, 06:56 PM Try looking in the glove box for the tire pressure sticker and tell us what it says. That may help if it is the original one. RichZ/28's are the only model equipped with 15 inch wheels.
As said, CE is replacement engine code.
Standard rear axle code could be 3.73, but any ratio could be ordered.
Nice find, very nice find, even if it isn't a Z/28.

yes, it is an original muncie car with the correct shifter.
yes, it has 4 leafs.
yes, it has rear bumper guards.
I am going back this next weekend to take some photos of the car to be posted here.

the car have old school cragar's wheel but the spare tire is a 15 inch rally wheel fited with an original 1971 F60 goodyear poliglass tire.
I am going to try to lift the car and take the numbers on the transmision and rear end.
rafbody Sep 30th, 09, 07:54 PM While you are there, get the spare out and see what the code on the wheel is. The correct code for a 68 Z rally wheel is DF and it should be near the valve stem hole.
Garfields Maro Oct 1st, 09, 12:23 AM Interesting find indeed :)
Check the springs, front & rear for the factory ID tags. With the low mileage and as well preserved as it sounds, may very well still be intact. Fronts are Z exclusive.
Pictures are appreciated....:)
Edit
BTW, if you didn't know;
06C = June, 3rd week
711 = Ivory/ Black Custom Buckets
ZZ = British Green
Don't know what the "PB" is ???
bcm66 Oct 1st, 09, 01:49 AM Manuel,
Didn't you also find two Lemans Blue 1969 Z28s within the last few months?
I think I need to take a trip to PR to see what I can find. :thumbsup:
bertfam Oct 1st, 09, 08:16 AM Manuel, can you tell me the VIN and send me a few pictures of the car? I'd like to add it to the database.

Thanks

Yes, I found two 1969 Z/28 that I post here last month. One is already sold for 20,000.00 and the other is still available.
PR is a very small island but since we belong to the US the american cars was the number one selling cars up to the 80's. Now the japanese, corean and european are the best selling.
There still a lot of cars from the 50's, 60's and 70's on the island.
You are welcome to come and for sure you will have a great time here and also I can show you some of the best original unrestored Camaro's that exist.
Have you ever see a 1969 Z/28 that came from the factory with the top painted in one color and the body in another color?
The car is Galcier Blue with a White Painted top and white stripes with a Blue interior. The trim tag show this color combination and this car is so original that still have the spiral shocks that came install from the factory.

firstgenaddict Oct 1st, 09, 01:49 PM IF the car is original as you report then it should not be too difficult to verify that it is a real Z28. Ensure that the speedo cable comes out under the wiper motor and not over by the steering column. Everything is shaping up nicely...
I like the colors... British Racing Green with Ivory... nice!

I know of only one other two-tone Z - gold with a white top. Pretty uncommon to say the least!
firstgenaddict Oct 2nd, 09, 07:48 AM talked with a Mexican contractor 2 days ago and he said that the muscle cars and 60's cars are runnign all over Mexico, he has bought and returned quite a few to the states.

There is a Cuban guy from Miami that use the name of "REAL MUSCLE 1" on ebay that have bought and bring back to the US over 100 muscle cars from Puerto Rico in the last five years making a lot of $$$ on they.

I personally saw the Blue and white car and it doesn't look so bad at all but gold with white, men I don't know.
solteroboss Oct 7th, 09, 09:44 PM I am trying to convince this guy to let me take some photos but it haven't being easy. He is changing his mind about selling the car but I will continue with my effords. This car worth the all the money.
