: cowl injetion possible with stinger hood
okiemark Oct 2nd, 09, 07:44 AM I've been thinking about cowl injection lately. I have a stinger hood that has been opened at the front (this is old pic). does that take away any chances of installing a cowl injection? (good amount of air going into the front of the stinger, therefore not continuing over the hood?) I haven't inspected this hood lately but I believe the back of the hood is the same as a regular cowl hood. Do all cowl injection systems have the same style air cleaner? I'd like a more modern look around the air cleaner. Several months back, I posted a thread about using the opening of the stinger and it appears there's simply not enough air going in the front to be of any use. Is that correct? thanks.12186
SPARKY69 Oct 2nd, 09, 07:50 AM what the he## is cowl injection sunshine boy???(induction maybe??)..hahahahhaha
okiemark Oct 2nd, 09, 07:53 AM lol, yeah INDUCTION. Hey, it's early out here!
SPARKY69 Oct 2nd, 09, 08:01 AM I knew it was something but i wasnt gonna say what i was truly thinking due to the fact it might get me banned but i will pm you my thoughts....hahaha
okiemark Oct 2nd, 09, 08:05 AM the bad thing is I don't know how to correct the title. Do you know how? Maybe I'll have to plead to the moderator for mercy. Just as I'm starting to learn things and sound like I know what I'm talking about I pull this.:(
SPARKY69 Oct 2nd, 09, 08:06 AM i think the only way to do it is to plead!!!
Denvervet Oct 2nd, 09, 08:06 AM I looked into those hoods previously. Most if not all don't recommend opening the front due to rain and debris blowing straight into the enging area. Which seemed to be the reason to have that opening to begin with....duh. So, seemed kind of dumb looking to me to have the front closed . On top of that those hoods are fiberglass and the underside isn't shaped like a cowl induction hood to be able to seal up to the air filter. You will still get air flow from the cowl area but will dump into engine area. They do look cool though.

I was concerned about debri/rain also. But, we don't get much rain out here and this will just be a weekend car. I agree about looking better opened than closed. I thought about having a mesh screen put on but like the open look.
I have a cowl hood also for this car (and the original flat hood). But, I'm pretty committed to the stinger. QUESTION: how much h.p. is gained through a conventional induction system?
madmax87 Oct 2nd, 09, 08:51 AM I'm planning on installing the insert that you see on the Corvette's using that hood. Give the front a little more depth to it. Although the rear mounting bolts will have nothing to attach to, I've talked to several dealers and they sell an expoxy adhesive that he says will never let go.
He is a good link explaining the benefits of the cowl hood.

thank you. I started reading that article last night. good info. for a novice, one would think the best source of air is the front. this article makes it nice and clear. As far as an "insert", there are some pretty cool looking ones out there. Ive even thought about putting in a solid insert that is attached to firm hinges. you can close or open it as you please, maybe even put a cable in your (like a parking break cable) car to open/close from your cockpit. that's just more fabrication to do though... last thing I need.
DOUG G Oct 2nd, 09, 03:16 PM OK you guys.... I am now wanting to see these "inserts" for the Stinger...Post some darn pics already
Z15CAM Oct 2nd, 09, 06:45 PM Sure use an Edelbrock 2" drop Air Breather Base Plate and a Garbage Can Lid ;o)

This is an actual 67 insert. Pretty rough condition but Ecklers sells repops for about $80.
