I looked at a 69 RS Camaro today and wanted some input on what it was worth.

It has a 307, Auto, red standard interior (TR 718) and red exterior with a with white top (PNT 52 E). It looks ok in the pictures, but up close the paint looks fair to poor and the underneath is especially rough. The frame and suspention are very rusty. The drivers door has some putty showing due to a crack in the paint and I'm assuming there's more elsewhere. The hidden headlight motors are rotted and almost gone so they don't work. The bumpers are missing. The interior is decent except for the drivers door panel is off and the headliner needs to be replaced. The vinyl top was removed and painted white so it looks like vinyl in the pictures. The floors have been replaced, but the trunk is rotted out and was fiberglassed to make it look normal. Its been sitting for a while and the starter is bad so I couldn't hear it run, but the owner said it runs good.

Here's some pictures http://s216.photobucket.com/albums/cc211/mojave10/1969%20Camaro%20RS/

Thanks

IMO its around 5K in parts in this economy, but I am sure the owner want around 10K for it. To restore with all the metal work and rust removal, they would be upside down in a hurry.

I have a question for the TC members.Did the RS come with a 307 that in it self sounds wierd to me.How bad is the roof, rockers, and wheel houses I think these items are the hardest to replace.I am with Kevin 5K I paid 2K for my 307 car 25 tears ago.You can get all new sheet metal for the entire car for around for 4 to 5K.How is the sub frame? How much of the work will you do your self.Just some things to keep in mind.Oh we just bought a 70 Chevelle for my son for 3K no motor no front sheet metal, needs quarters. So basicly we bought a roof, chassis and doors for 3K..

Z22 is window dressing and was available on all models. 307 replaced the 327 1/1/69.

RS could have been a 8 cyl or 6 cyl.

This car is rough. I would have to agree with the $5K.

If I have said it once I have said it 1000 times in my 35 years of 1st gens: don't buy badly rusted cars. Even the spliced fuel line is rusty-again.

It is a buyers market particularly for projects. Don't be in a hurry to buy. Spend a little more; get a lot more.

X2, I stay away from New York/northern cars due to rust, rust, and more rust.

Right on the money. The guy wants $10K obo for it. I considered it until I got a look at it in person.

I thought about offering him $4K for it, but I think its more trouble than its worth plus I didn't want to insult him.

Thanks for the opinions.

Yeah, run from that one even at 4k. I agree that for a little more you can do a lot better.

I was gonna say $2500. Maybe I'm a little out of touch on prices but that's all I'd pay for a car in that condition. Do the engine numbers match the body ?

That car will take alot of work and money. If it was a special camaro I would say restore it but it is a X-11 RS with a 307.

I think this type of mindset stem's from all the clone's , people are just so used to seeing car's fixed up as RS/SS 396 , or RS Z/28 that the real fact's that all that stuff was just optional equipment has been forgoten ,

like a tach and console gauge package is thought of as being SS ONLY when in fact could be ordered on ALL camaro's except six cylinder's

the RS option was an appearance option and had nothing to do with performance but try and find a fully restored six cylinder RS today ?

the car being discussed here WILL BE RESTORED and it WON'T BE A 307 :D

will it be a "green" RS Z28 with an RS emblem in the grille AND a Z28 emblem too and be "restored" by a blonde bubba in GA? ;)

the red on red is an unusual combination and would make a great looking car regardless of its final "configuration"
