Ok...i have been looking for a first gen car for a while now, so if you had say 25-30g ish, what can you get for your dollar in terms of a correct car, i really am not interested in resto mods, although very nice, its just not what i am looking for now. Also what about buying a car in the states, sight unseen and having it shipped??? thanks everyone i really enjoy this site!!!

Kelly, take a good look in the "featured ads" here on this site. Many of them have been on here for a year or so, maybe someone's ready to deal if you show them some cold, hard cash. You picked a really good time to buy a car at that amount.

Go ahead and buy a car anywhere.....but I wouldn't buy a car anywhere in Canada or the US, no matter who looked at it for me without seeing it in person. I'd rather blow a grand or more on a flight than blow 30 grand on a car that "looked real good in pictures".

Buying a car sight unseen is always a gamble. The advice to use a bit of your money to look at the car before purchase is good advice. If that's not in your plan, if you find a car that sounds interesting ask if anybody on this website is within reach of the car to do an inspection for you. Paying a guy for a little gas money and something for his time may be well worth it in the longrun.

As far as what 25K will buy you today, it should get you something pretty nice. You need to decide if you want a true Super Sport, a convertible, a nice project Z/28 or a near pristine plain jane. Avoid a car that is, or was, rusty. Take the time to find a car with original sheetmetal if you can. It sounds like you desire something pretty original. Remember "matching numbers" does not mean the car has the original engine.

When you call about a car ask the owner to describe each and every panel as they walk around the car. They need to be specific. Sorry to say this, but I would avoid dealers when you can.

By the way, if you can throw another 10K at a car a friend of mine has a pristine Bolero Red 67 SS396 with the original engine. He was wanting 45K for it but with the realities of the market I believe he might go for something close to 40K.

I have money saved, no banks nothing like that. I am just wanting a clean car, i am a gm tech with a young family and have no real time for a project car right now some odds and ends aren't a issue. I have no real preference when it comes to a car, i kinda like rs/ss cars, z-28s are outta my budget right now. verts are always nice as well. also wanting a 4 sp car. Thank you for the opinions so far, its great!!!..
