The engine pad on the front passenger head on the car I purchased last year is completely rusted. Is there a way to remove the rust without harming the stamped numbers underneath, assuming there are still numbers under there? Sanding, Rust remover? Also, the engine is fully assembled and in the car, so my access getting at this pad to remove the rust is alittle limited. I am pretty sure its not the original engine for this car but i am interested to see where it came from etc. thanks for the help

Evap o rust from Auto Zone.
I had the same issue but it does not sound like my pad was as bad as yours. I took a paper towel soaked it in Evap o rust then put it on the pad. It worked for me but you have to keep reapplying a soaking wet paper towel over several days.

Lawrence, thanks for the reply. Looks like that might be my best option if I can get it to work, it is fairly heavy rust, but I will just keep putting it on there until something happens, thanks

WD-40 and a Scotchbrite pad.

I think I would try this PB Blasters product - PB Penetrating Catalyst.

Does WD-40 actually desolve rust? The rust is not just a little surface rust, it looks to be heavier then that. Got some on the shelf though, I'll have to try it out first.

No, not yet. Tried a quick shot with the WD-40 but not much change, I have to try to get over to Autozone to pick up some Evapo-Rust I think. Might be alittle while cause I am square in the middle of a house project but I will definitely reply back hear if it works.

Muriotic acid attacks corrosion. M. acid will require multiple apps to dissolve and naturally must be dried thoroughly. One app will remove light rust immediately. Convenient availability. Hydrogen Peroxide also but not as aggressive.
