I agree, even though I have a bias being a Twins fan

Incredible game. Ranks up there with 6 and 7 in the '91 WS as far as Twins games go.

Oh man that was a great game to say the least. My son and I watched if from the first inning through the last. I was afraid to get up and go to the bathroom thinking that I might miss something. A real nail biter. Guys on base every inning ... Just an all out fun game. Very even game ... 12 hits a piece. Two excellent managers too.

I feel bad for the Tigers ... Detroit could have used the diversion of some playoff baseball. But Kudos to the Twins for hanging in there and playing tough. They are a pesky team to say the least. Now they are off to New York ...

This was one of the greatest baseball games I've ever watched. I love the sport, can't get enough of it. The Tigers provided us with some seriously needed diversion this summer here in Michigan and for that I thank each and everyone of them. That said..............

Right after Labor Day we were talking Tigers and I said I was concerned the Tigers up 7 games at that point would not win the division and even if they did they'd be the worst team in the playoffs at .540 they'd have been no higher than 3rd place in any other division. I just got laughed at. But MLB TV is already reporting that no team in history has lost their division with 4 games remaining leading by 3 games. They also blew a 7 game lead in the month of September. The Tigers played .350 baseball in the final month of the season and did not deserve to move on to the playoffs. It should have never come down to a one game playoff. They have a lot of talent, the third largest payroll in baseball but played well below their potential in September. In this game however they played GREAT baseball and it makes me wonder where these guys were the last month when they couldn't win a series or on all the nights the bats fell silent. Rick Porcello is an amazing kid and should hold his head high for the effort he put in tonight. For a 20 year old kid to go out and contain the hot Twins the way he did for 6 innings is unbelievable. Santiago's slide into first base was amazing. Mauer deserves the MVP by the way in my book.

The Twins played .800 baseball the past month and are the hottest team in baseball right now. The Yankees should be taking notice of this. I hope the Twins spank them. The Twins were without Morneau and one of their top pitchers and still got it done. It will go down historically as one of the greatest runs at the end of a season. I'm happy for their fans. The God forsaken dome that's probably ended many a career lives to see a few more games. Baseball wasn't meant to be played indoors.

It was an amazing game. Tigers had chances to win it in the 8th, 9th, 10th, 12th innings. Including bases loaded in the 12th and couldn't get it done.

Detroit could have clinched Saturday night, but their 22 million dollar a season star was reported by the Detroit News to have been found with a .26 blood alcohol at 6 am when police were called to his home. Later that day he goes 0-4, leaving 6 runners in scoring position and the Tigers lose by 2. Guys lacking that kind of discipline don't deserve to be playing ball in October.

The Tigers did an amazing job considering all the injuries they played through this year. But they suffered their annual end of season collapse that still stings after all these years.

Oh man, that place must have been LOUD! I was there once and would loved to been there last night. I hate to say, I think the Twins are going to miss that place.

I'm a forever Yankee fan. That said, I don't the the Yanks are taking anyone lightly. They have struggled to get out the first round of the playoffs. Regular season is over and all those stats are out the window. Twinkies are red hot right now - just at the right time. If my Yankees can't go all the way - I'll be pulling for the Twins.

Tigers got screwed by the non hit by pitch call...It would have scored the go ahead run...might have been a different ending...oh well that's sports...This game was almost as good as that famous game with I think the Mariners and Yankees about a dozen years ago...It was a classic....

Yeah, that was a great game. I said to my brother that it will be tough for the playoffs to come up with a better game than that one.

Only people that got screwed were the Tiger fans who thought their team showed any effort over the past 30 days. Last night the Tigers proved they've been dogging it hoping to slide into the playoffs. This was not the same team I've watched every night for the past month. The Tiger's GM has a lot of decisions to make this winter.

When your franchise player goes 0-11 in a pennant clinching series because he was out drunk at 6 am on game day there's a problem with commitment to the team. Tiger's showed no effort to wrap this up over the past couple of weeks and they did not deserve to win this one. The best team won.

The home plate umpire had to make a LOT of very close calls and I think replay backed him up everytime except twice. Polanco's called third strike was 6 inches inside off the plate. Twin's Cabrerra took a called third strike that was over 6 inches off the outside of the plate, but he brought that on himself with his mouth when he went after the ump for a correctly called first strike. Blue should've and could've tossed him from the game, but showed real restraint. The brush to Inge's jersey isn't a call you'll get in a game of this importance. Inge wears a loose fitting baggy jersey and hangs over the plate with his stance, he won't and shouldn't get that call unless it hits his body, although by the rules, yes he could've been awarded the base. But the Twins would've found a way to get that run back anyway, they were simply the better team last night, not by much, but they found a way to win.

Something the Tiger's haven't looked too hard to do for the past month and because of that they can sit home and watch the playoffs now.

Well a rule is a rule and it was a missed call simple as that...It's too bad that the Tigers fell apart at the end...It wasn't too long ago that they were really a bad team...The division was there for them to grab....

Non call on Inge's shirt was a mistake in my book,it should have been called a HBP the way the rules are structured...or we might still be playing.

I've umpired for several years and you cannot make a conscience effort and hesitate on any call or not call anything close...You have a natural reaction to react...Marsh just plain missed the call...

Man even the Tigers website has the video to this play with Inge. Mike you are right it is a rule and they could've given him the base. Even though I'm a Tigers fan I just hate to see it come to that unless it plunks him. Marsh watched the video after the game and insists he still got the right call. When I watch it the ball clearly did make contact with his jersey and Inge was trying to get out of the way. There is about 4 inches of baggy shirt hanging out in the breeze on Brandon's slim body for the ball to catch. Remember Inge was 1 HBP shy of leading the American League this year, albeit he did play 157 games, so a lot of AB. Still he does get hit a lot. It just shouldn't have come down to this game if they'd have played the rest of the month with the heart they played with last night. It was a magical game, despite the outcome.

I guess I still remember how we lost the division on the last game of the season in 2006 and went in as the wild card team. I know the Twins deserved it more playing 800 ball last month compared to the Tigers 350 or so I still wonder if the Tigers would've embarassed the Yankees like they did in 2006 when no one in the media gave them a chance. Even the Yankees that year arrogantly announced to the world they were the best lineup ever on paper. Then they quickly folded in 4 games to Detroit. USA today is already making excuses today why the 5 game series is unfair to the Yankees. They hadn't played one pitch and already the excuses were coming out. Twins lost tonight, but lets see what plays out over the next 4 games.

The HBP probably should've been called. But there are missed calls all the time, you just have to overcome them. Though Casilla made a really poor tag-up in the 10th, I'm not sure he was really out at the plate. He may have been, but it was really, really close. Haven't seen a good, really slow replay.

The Tigers had a 7 game lead with a month to go, 3 with 4 games to go. And they finished the season at home. There is much more blame to be spread around than a missed call by the umpire.

The Yankees have owned the Twins for several years, pretty much the last decade. And the Twins' postseason record during the last decade is awful. 6-16, one series win ('02 vs. the A's) since '91.

My hopes aren't too high, but can never count them out.

well it all dosen't matter, the yanks will put them away in a sweep...The twins used up all their pitching I believe...Hey the ump missed the call and that's part of the game, that should never change....

While it's true the Yankees have had the Twins number in the regular season ... Never count a Gardenhire team out of anything. He's a great manager and motivator. He and Tom Kelly before him are two guys that can just take a team that a lot folks wouldn't even give a second thought to, and get them play hard, do all the little things right and be a very competitive.

For the first couple innings last night - The Yankees were looking like the team that was sleeping walking. As a die hard life long Yankees fan - I have seen them fold like a cheap suit case in the playoffs (especially the first round) in recent years. I take nothing for granted.

Lariano - still coming back from Tommy John Surgery
Perkins - out
Slowey - out
Morneau - out
Crede - out

3/5 of their starting rotation hasn't been there for pretty much the season, their 3rd baseman and now one of thier MVP type middle of the line-up guys is out the last month and they still pull out a playoff spot! Kudos to the twins. That's some good baseball right there.

Never count the Twins out. They play until the last out. Games played with the Yankees this year were very competitive and at least 3 were won in the bottom of the 9th.

They are right where they want everybody - Thinking they are done.

We'll see what happens. if its a sweep, the Yankees are not gonna get it by being lax.
