: BARN FIND 69 Z/28 (Original owner) PICTURES
LUCKYSTAR2990818 Oct 7th, 09, 09:01 AM Hey Guys
I bought this 69 from the original owner. He bought it on Nov 5th 1969.The sticker on the car was $4053 he got it for $3700.00. I have been following this car for 28 years. I got the original title from 1969 and the Protect-O-Plate also. I got the invoice from when he bought the car but it is faded but he wrote down what it had as far as opitions go.
1969 Z/28,center console, posi traction axle 373,front power disc brakes,4 speed close ratio trans m21,special instramentation,AM push button radio (missing),special front bumper, special ducted hood, special trim group, special interior group and special performance. The car is showing 78,000 on the speedo which is correct.
The DZ block was lost during a race with a corvette back in 1971. He said he won the race but sent a rod through the block. He had a short block install #ceb190392vo603xcd and the heads, intake and carb are all off the DZ block.

I got the running and is driveable but not ready for the road. Needs tires they are very dry rotted and I have not checked the brakes yet although they do stop the car. I'm going to a cruise night Friday to see what people have to say about it LOL. Anyway I might have a chance to by a 65 vette that is all done except for paint for a really good deal so that is why I was thinking about selling this car : )
So here is the pictures enjoy

There is a cruise night at the Walmart in Boonton, Morris County off Rt 287. I have to see if they are still doing it.
very nice. Love the endura bumper. So that's a functioning cowl induction hood? cool.
It is a functioning hood but it is not working at this time. I'm going to take a look at it soon.
LUCKYSTAR2990818 Oct 7th, 09, 11:26 AM So If you had to put a price on it what would it be? I may list it on Ebay but I would need a reserve....
Thanks
Dave
PROZ11 Oct 7th, 09, 11:46 AM Hey Dave,
I'm not sure if the Walmart thing is still going on or how to find out. I'm guessing if the weather is nice enough people will be there. They are calling for showers on Friday so they may put a damper on it. If it's not raining I'll bring my car by and meet up with you.. I'd love to check out the Z. If there is no curise on Friday I'd still like to check out the car some time.

You are correct. Also wrong stripes on trunk for a factory D80 car. Maybe hit or repainted at one time. Neat car though.

That is funny you brought that up. When I went to look at the car the owner kept on showing me those seat belts. I will take a picture of them tomorrow. How rare are they?

He got hit in the rear in the early 70's and the body shop told him they stopped making the tall ones. He said he liked the short ones better. I like the tall ones myself

Jay68Z28 Oct 7th, 09, 07:28 PM Nice Car, I will try to post pics of my 68 Z/28 that sat in a field in CT for 16 years that is now going under a complete restoration. Love those Barn Finds, Good Luck!
Jay68Z28 Oct 7th, 09, 07:52 PM This is mine, sat in a field under a tree for 16 years, they are still out there. I know of a 69 Z/28 Hugger orange, all there, 25K original miles (1/4 mile at a time) endura front bumper, houndstooth, black vinyl top. Even has the original cardboard sleeve over the driver side sun visor explaining the "New" locking column. Unbelieveable.

Jay68Z28 Oct 7th, 09, 09:23 PM Yes British Green, I have a CE block as well, the original blew up under warranty and a GM replacement short block was installed in 12/68.

Lucky Dog, I was after that car for a long time also.Car was hit in the rear,he was going home one night and the battery died left it on the side of the road and a drink hit it.He drove that thing dam near across the country with his wife.He was even driving 4-5 years ago with those dry rotted tires. He told me the main reason he brought it was because he liked the color and stripes, can't remember the story about him needing a co signer to buy it.Did you also get the parts he had for it new gm Qter panel ect?
Can't believe he finely sold it I would stop a couple times a year,he wife would always tell him will you sell this guy our car.He would always tell me a new story about the history of the car.Thought i had him one day 5 years ago stopped in talked to his wife said he had just lost his job.I went to the bank returned with lots of hundreds talked with him and his wife keep offer more $ and refused all offers, man was his wife pissed. He always said he was going to restore it.
This is the car that got me into muscle cars. When I was 10 1970 we would go his house all the time going down to the shore (the old back roads) and I would hope he would be home just to get a look at the car.
Smokey.
LUCKYSTAR2990818 Oct 8th, 09, 11:16 PM Hey Smokey
I really think you got this car mixed up with another car. 95% OF YOUR STATEMENT IS NOT TRUE. His wife did not want him to sell the car. A drunk did not hit him. The car has not been on the road since 1998. He drove it to Maine a few times not CROSS COUNTRY.God if there is another one like it I would love to hear about that one.
Dave

Except for the hood and paint it looks the same.
Jay68Z28 Oct 9th, 09, 07:48 PM Yes I agreee, hopefully when I am finished, it will look as good as yours. I have the history to the original owner, changed hands in 1980, then again in 1990 and then to me in 2006. It has spent its entire life in eastern CT. all original except the CE block, 3932386 early 4 bolt. BU rear, VIN in the M21, VIN under cowl and on firewall (heater core) dated 291's, WT master cylinder, 9078 booster, 610 intake, 814, 4053, 837, correct dated DF 15x6's (5)the only panel that won't be retained is the hood due to the holes cut out for the hood pins.

Dave, Won't give details on the net of the location. He lives across the street from (M*****a S......... Controls)I know the car,Last offer I gave him he was out of work at the time, she wanted the money more.I thought the trips where to Montana, but yes it was to Maine. Did you get the NOS quarter panel? Don't believe there is another.
Good luck with it,

I'd keep the hood matter what. There are lots of flat hoods around, but finding one with the right date may be tough. GM original hoods had dates on them and I am trying to find one for my car with the right date. So if that is the original hood, you might think about just getting the holes fixed.
Jay68Z28 Oct 12th, 09, 09:59 AM I didn't know that they were dated. After reading your post I called my bodyman to see if we retained it. I picked up a flat GM hood for 75.00 that was straight. The 68 it came off of was parked in the garage with a cowl induction hood on it that replaced it. Where can I find the date stamping? Thanks for the info.

z/27 camaro Oct 16th, 09, 01:44 AM i think your Z might be worth around 30,000.00. its got a couple of rare options...the documented ZL 2 and the endura front bumper also alot of paper work to go with it. but it needs a lot of work. the fact that its a factory ZL 2 car is super rare.
just my opinion. :)
zman1969 Oct 16th, 09, 06:13 PM I had a 09a car- fathom green Z28- Endura and was ZL2 seems like alot of late production were optioned out- sure wish I kept it
bob 55 Oct 17th, 09, 02:03 PM My Z is a 09C build also with ZL-2 . No paperwork but have a J.M. certification stating original firewall piercing for original solenoid on the firewall.
Maybe something to the late build option theory as I also have fold down rear seat, rear de-fogger yellow light stereo and m-22 trans.
William Oct 17th, 09, 03:36 PM There is no "late build option" theory. Chevy built every Camaro to a specific dealer order. An order could be for dealer stock or for a customer.
Sheet metal was not dated like a casting or a drivetrain component. There is usually a letter and a number to indicate the week. I have cut-off quarter panel chunks of very late 69 [10A] and they are stamped H39 and H40. Extremely easy to duplicate.
This date stuff is nonsense. Just go buy a stinkin' hood and move on.
