: Drag Car - passenger with in car video
NHRA 3168 Oct 7th, 09, 07:16 PM **sorry for the duplicate post. I didn't check before I put this on here since I had just put the video on youtube last night. - moderators - please delete if needed**
My brother took a friend for a ride in our 66 Chevy II drag car. To make it more fun we threw the in car camera in to catch the passenger's reaction. He had never raced at the drag strip before but had attended a few races. Check out his reaction to the launch - it is priceless. Now that my wife has seen this I'll probably never get her in the car!

Melrose RS Oct 8th, 09, 02:40 PM That thing sounds nice! How many cubes?
NHRA 3168 Oct 8th, 09, 04:48 PM with the weight of the extra passenger on this it ran an 11.80 at 110. The car is stock eliminator class legal Chevy II running the 220 hp 283.
98blackburb Oct 8th, 09, 06:01 PM Tell me more on the motor and gear, that is a sweet run
NHRA 3168 Oct 8th, 09, 07:35 PM We spin it pretty hard but if I told you the gear ratios I'd have to swear you to silence. In stock eliminator you are limited to what you can do inside the rules. Class rules require the stock Rochester 4gc carb and factory intake. Same with the heads and they also require stock srocker arms. The cam lift is limited to factory specs (.399/.399) but duration is unlimited. Basically some of these parts could have come on a taxi and then we blueprint them to try and get the most out of them.
70chevyz28 Oct 8th, 09, 08:14 PM wow....little 283 can go!
Everett#2390 Oct 9th, 09, 04:32 AM Finding untouched parts, meaning all parts must have OEM machining/broach marks and no sanding of the mold splits, and using the lightest parts and the major parts of the same period of manufacture, makes it an expensive hobby.
And I would wager the gear ratios are high by street standards, aka, X.13:1 and no rpm's less than 7500. More rpm, more HP, until frictional HP takes over.
RSSSfanatic Oct 9th, 09, 07:17 AM It took me a few tries, but it is pretty cool to get both videos synched up to run simultaneously. :D
So it sounds like the rules do not allow any modifications to the heads at all - no port work or oversized valves? Are they allowed to run headers or raise the compression ratio? Pretty impressive that they are able to get that kind of power out of basically stock, small displacement motors.
DOUG G Oct 9th, 09, 02:55 PM So I didn't see anything about stroke... might that 283 have a 327 crank ???? :D
camaro man Oct 9th, 09, 10:58 PM Looks like Cordova, IL
Skeeter55 Oct 10th, 09, 09:28 AM That was awesome and the passenger was getting bounced around pretty good.

No 327 cranks in a 283 for me. That kind of stuff gets you a year off for bad behavior from NHRA.
Good eye on picking out Cordova dragstrip. That is my home track. We have our last association race of the year there next Saturday. I just got back from the National Open at Indianapolis. It was so cold they postponed the scheduled first round from 9 AM to 11 AM this morning so it could warm up. Unfortunately I went -.002 red in the first round and wasted a 11.575 on an 11.57 dial. We did put the camera in during qualifying on Saturday and faced it forward for a different view out the windshield going down the track. I'll post it when I have more time.
