: my 68 Camaro Project Car... needs work!
JIM68 Oct 9th, 09, 08:21 PM I just figured I'd ask, what's it worth?
Needs rear quarters, truck, rear inner/outer fenders, dash, might as well do the roof etc...

I have all the glass, powerglide(original), m-20, 327/210hp, but have camelhumps. Original power steering/brakes car with AC. I'm not that interested in selling it, i'm pretty much holding onto it to restore SLOWLY over my whole life... :D
The subframe (http://www.camaro327.com/68/Subframe.htm) was restored and powdercoated all nice and neat, then i stupidly left the car at a "restoration" shop to get sandblasted and have the floors and lower cowls replaced, then the subframe went all down hill from there and the shop "fixed" it by spraying everything with glossy black paint to cover up my rusting hardware and such. thanks guys  now i have gloss black paint protecting the powdercoated subframe.

Jay68Z28 Oct 9th, 09, 08:32 PM Nice! an original black custom interior bench seat car. Granada Gold with a black vinyl top. Are you going to do it to original? Who cares what it's worth, as long as you are having fun restoring it (which it looks like) Enjoy it when it's done.
JIM68 Oct 9th, 09, 08:43 PM how do you know it was BENCH? and i think it was a green exterior with black vinyl roof....
gold..... ewwwwww (maybe this picture shows the original color:http://www.camaro327.com/68/Exterior/6.jpg)
it's gonna be teal blue or tahoe turquoise, ok maybe fathom blue: http://www.camaro327.com/68/Goal/fathomblue.jpg

This will help you decode your trim tag http://camaros.org/numbers.shtml just scroll down for exterior and interior info. Looks to be Ash Gold with custom bench seat for the factory.
RSSSfanatic Oct 10th, 09, 11:40 AM Ash gold looks green, depending on the light it is in. That is a pretty rare combination!
JIM68 Oct 10th, 09, 12:29 PM i'm loving that i have a "rare" car. :) $$$$$$$$ :D
Jay68Z28 Oct 10th, 09, 02:11 PM The 715 on your trim tag specifies Black Custom Interior, Bench Seat. G-Ash Gold, 2-Black Vinyl Top. Sorry about the Granada mix up earlier, half asleep.
JIM68 Oct 10th, 09, 04:06 PM as far as the custom interior... is that the door panels and stuff or does that mean just different than buckets, cause i bought it with the standard interior, but i bought it from some dirtybag that probably took all the good stuff off anyways...

JIM68 Oct 12th, 09, 05:29 PM i've NEVER seen a Deluxe BENCH seat....

Jay68Z28 Oct 15th, 09, 07:39 PM Black one for sale at Lake Compounce 2 years ago.
Hey Scott, do you remember my 68 Z/28 for sale at Lake Compounce in 2006? British Green, newer exhaust?

Put a roof skin on. Piece of cake. Use glue, only weld the sails and A-pillars.
draddog69 Jan 20th, 12, 06:19 AM I agree with Scott. They are less than 300.00 and fit really well. Figure about 10 hours by yourself for labor. I replaced two so far and have not had any problems other than removing the remains of the old one from the drip rails.
JIM68 Jan 20th, 12, 06:35 AM Time to take a welding course I guess...

3/16"x3" grinding wheel for the drips, no problem. Do not drill the spotwelds out. And install molding studs first, then weld the backsides of them. Install deadaner prior to install. You don't need a welding course, you need to practice after doing a little research.
68camaroz28 Jan 21st, 12, 06:56 PM Jim, have you evaluated what your going to have in this project, both in time and $$$ vs. what you will have when it's finished?
JIM68 Jan 21st, 12, 07:22 PM ^^^
yes I've gone back and forth about this... I know it'll cost less and have faster results if I sell mine and buy one that is complete and drivable.
it was never really about the money, it was about the passion for this cars resurrection, check my signiture for this pictures of what it looked like when I bought it. I'd rather not add up what $ I have into it right now, but it's been an expensive education to say the least. I just wish I had more courage for getting into the sheetmetal replacement and welding. I'm a mechanical engineer by trade so I'm used to doing things by exact numbers and tight tolerances... That is why I feel I need to take a welding course first.
More recently it HAS been about the money or the lack there of. And also having interests go in other directions.
I bought a home and have other instant gratification expenses.... The Camaro isn't costing me any money by sitting it the garage, just space.
Trust me I love 68 Camaros I even named my dog Camaro :) and he runs great

Sometimes we need to ask ourselves just how much is this passion to resurrection worth. It's common to have those thoughts, we all have, but I guess I believe with families and life we still should reveiw it as a investment, an investment of time and money. Too many times as you have already mentioned other commitements take us away. Took me almost 30 years to really start our 68Z/28 restoration so I know. Sorry for the mature father/grandfather coming out of me.....
What a cool name for the dog and bet he does run well:D
