Hey guys, Any way to prove this car is a true Z28 by this trim tag?

I've owned it for about 7 years now and have known the car since 1976 when a friend of mine purchased it. At the time it was Hugger Orange with White stripes with the RS package and the DZ motor and had 53K on the odometer.

Tag reads.
St 69 12437 NOR 112266
TR 713 72 72
9D

Thanks for any help.
Jim

Nope, nothing on an early '69 tag to designate Z/28.

If it is the OE DZ engine it will have the cars' serial number stamped on the engine block in front of the RH cylinder head. For example if the VIN on the dash is 124379N512345 the block would be stamped 19N512345. Trans also but that can be hard to see.

Thanks guys I didn't think it could be identified by tag but wasn't sure.

Car is currently in primer and original drive train is long gone.
Pro street project started back in the 80's and abandoned.

I hated to see part of our youth given away and I bought it very reasonable and had the old bomb media blasted and new quarters installed before I brought it home.

It now sets waiting for ???? I don't know. Might finish what he started one of these days but currently working on what I believe to be a LM1 RS and can't do but one at a time.

Thanks,
Jim

I have a LM1 RS myself. Have you posted VIN and tag info. on that car here yet?

Hi Jim, No I haven't posted any numbers for the car. Kind of a mute point original motor and trans gone when I bought the car. :(

It's badged as RS but has all the SS options and LM1 clues but can't prove it for sure.
And as I'm going back fairly original with the exception of adding a CE 69 L78 that I have owned since I was 16 I guess it doesen't much matter.

It will make a nice keeper car proof or not it has way more options than any Camaro I have owned and as I get older I appreciate them more and more. :D

Here's what it has.
AC PS Power disc brakes tilt wheel with dealer added cruise control 4 speed 12 bolt with 4 leaf springs 331 gears and has the proportioning valve on DS frame rail also has the dual fuel lines and the chrome top air cleaner was in the trunk.

Interior is delux black CW with the wood trim and gage package.

I guess it could have originally been a SS 350 car but why would anyone badge an SS as A RS? Also the car was a barn find and had been off the road since 1985 so I don't think much has been messed with over the years.

I'm going back as Black RS and the BB 4 speed. :beers:

Thanks, :beers:

Someone ordered that combo. Doubtful it was a car for dealer stock. :)

Hi Kurt, So what is your thoughts? Is it a LM1 RS or a rebadged SS?
I know it would be easy enough to add the SS emblems and Wala a BB SS is born but I like the idea of leaving it a RS if it is a LM1.

Thanks,
Jim

I'd agree with you, probably a LM1. Everyone makes a regular car an SS, very few SS's regress back to a non-SS.

Yes, it should have the valve.

I don't see where you went from thinking it might possibly be a Z/28 to thinking maybe an SS instead but with factory A/C it is definately not a Z/28. Being an early car with no X code and no original powertrain remaining what you have is just a nice project car. It will never be any more than that unless original documentation turns up that proves otherwise.

Sorry for the confusion guys. Yes we are talking about 2 different cars. Originally asked about the Z28 Cowl tag info and then Click and I got on the current RS project I'm working on and it is also a pre X code car but has alot more identifying markers than the Z-car.

Sparky I'll be checking with you on those parts. :hurray:

Thanks for everyones input. :beers:

You might be able to look for X code crayon marking on the rear bulk head, I found mine.

Sounds like you are talking about a very early car?
