: Not Barn Found, Field Found!
Jay68Z28 Oct 10th, 09, 02:41 PM Does anyone in the Eastern CT area remember this 1968 Camaro Z/28? It was parked under a tree in a yard on a rural road in Tolland. Many business cards were left under the windshield wipers with interest to purchase. The owner would not let it go and it sat there since 1990, needing calipers and rotors. The tires were flat, exhaust completely fell off in its rusted state and mice used the seat foam for warmth in the heater core. I have heard some interesting stories about the car and was wondering if any members remember it please post a reply thanks, Jay. I am currently having a rotisserie restoration done on it.:D

What a great feeling to find and to get it. So how did you get them to sell to you and not the others that left there cards? Right time?
Jay68Z28 Oct 10th, 09, 03:20 PM Timing, timing, timing. It wasn't cheap and the front spoiler was ripped off while being pulled out of the field. Replaced gas tank, exhaust, tires, brake job, tune up and it fired right up.
Jay68Z28 Oct 10th, 09, 03:21 PM Dave, what are you looking to get for that diamond in the rough 69 Lemans Blue car?
Jay68Z28 Oct 15th, 09, 07:41 PM This car was for sale at Lake Compounce during the spring of 2006.
NHBandit Oct 16th, 09, 07:07 AM Do the numbers match because as you probably already know, 68s are damn near impossible to prove what they are from the trim tag. Awsome find and a great story. I had a friend here in NH several years ago who had the kind of story we all dream about happen to him. He found a 68 "Camaro" for sale in a local newspaper for a couple grand needing work. He was the first to go look at the car and bought it on the spot. It was a number matching Z/28 and the seller had no clue what she had. As far as yours talk to Mike "MR-427" on the Yenko site. He's from CT and been around these cars for many years. Tell him Mark in NH sent ya.
Jay68Z28 Oct 16th, 09, 08:58 AM Thanks Mark, matching number drivetrain except the CE block dated 12/68 3932386, after the original motor blew up under warranty. Documented history, BU rear, M21 with the VIN stamped in the case, riveted exhaust hangers, original 291's, 610, dated stamped DF wheels (5) and so on. I went over this car with Jerry Mac's book and everything is in order. Car spent it's life in eastern CT and all owners prior to me are still known and in the area. I still hear stories about this car from old timers who remember it driving around the streets of Stafford 30 years ago.
Jay68Z28 Oct 16th, 09, 09:06 AM I think that i have spoken with Mike about the car (if it is the same guy) he knows the car and his son was trying to buy it over the years.
5speed502 Oct 16th, 09, 09:11 AM Cool car, and Cool find. I have to ask one question though....
Is that really snow on the ground already on Oct. 10?
Jay68Z28 Oct 16th, 09, 01:09 PM No, Lol, the picture was uploaded on 10/10/09. The car was being transported to be dry stripped in December of 2006.
68zproject Oct 16th, 09, 04:02 PM Was it a NOR or LOS built car? Mine that I put the pic up of like yours was LOS. If yours is (well either way) I'd like to maybe get as many pics as possible of some detail areas since yours looks like it hasn't been touched since it was made.
GenOne Oct 16th, 09, 04:36 PM Great Find! Grats -
Melrose RS Oct 16th, 09, 05:03 PM Jay, I'm from NE CT. Do you know if the car came from Cargill Chevrolet or Gem Chevrolet originally?

Norwood Car, let me know what you need, the car is completely stripped at this time, but I have more pics of when it was whole.

Hey Tom, I am not sure but will find out. I have yet to talk to the original owner. To the best of my knowledge, it was purchased from a Chevrolet dealer in or near Stafford, CT.
Melrose RS Oct 17th, 09, 09:02 PM Probably neither of those then. Those dealerships are in Putnam and Willimantic.
Jay68Z28 Nov 10th, 09, 04:36 PM Was watching Football last night in Somers CT. We started talking about cars and a native from Stafford, CT spoke up and said he remebered the Z/28 from over 20 years ago ripping up the streets of Stafford! He described the car to a "T" what a small world.

That's always fun - hearing stories about your car. :D
I got that this summer when I went back to the big show in Putnam with my (grandfather's) Camaro. People I hadn't seen in 20 years coming up to me and talking to me!
